  • Nay. this sounds like communism.

To be fair, it'd be total Monarchy, not communism.  Moot would have all the power again and would delegate it as he chose.

He could go that communist direction if he so wanted with this power, but he's more steering towards keeping things virtually the same if you check out the Provisional Government thread.

  • We've tried BSR, we really, really have. The fact of the matter is, we've proposed 5+ solutions or compromises, but somebody has a nitpick somewhere, and the whole damn thing gets blocked. Wintreath needs to adapt, and we're not going to if we're not even gonna start progress forward.
Except you haven't, is the problem. We discussed so much in Discord and got nowhere, despite the fact that we clearly shared similar goals and problems. The fact of the matter is that those on the Burner side decided not to pursue these courses of action, opting instead to just get their agenda done and wipe their hands of the matter (which is not surprising - when you base your entire political party around one course of action of course you want to complete that and nothing else). I can count the number of possible solutions discussed on one hand, and they are as follows:
    • Open Assembly
    • Giving the Cabinet the power
    • Giving the Monarch the power
The Burners opted for the third course of action, despite the fact that it was discussed very little, and now we will not move forward at all because it's easiest to just let the Monarch make decisions. You can't use the excuse "We tried everything," because you didn't. This is a rushed bill, presented in the final trimester of the current UH term, meant to destroy it. That's about it. I don't expect any discussion if this bill is passed, because nobody will be willing to talk about it when its not an immediate issue.

  • We have tried all three options. We tried option 1 in 2015 and barely got a majority because the nay voters were arguing about all the details of the bill rather than the overall point behind it -- I have zero doubt that any OA bill the Storting passed now would get shot down in referendum because not enough people agree on the implementation. We tried option 2, but everyone complained that the Cabinet should not have the responsibilities of a legislature, and on top of that Wintermoot was uncomfortable with entrenching the Cabinet in the Fundamental Laws. That leaves option 3, which is the compromise solution.

Nobody has been more involved in trying to figure out a fix to the legislature here than the members of the Burner party. If the Storting is burned down, we will have no legislature, and so only then will there be immediacy in figuring out the next step -- we just need to get past the UH to get there. And make no mistake that this is just the first step and not the end solution. I for one will 100% be working to help figure out the next step, and I expect the Burners to make up the very few people who will actually be working on a successive and successful legislature.

So Option 1 was tried, what, 5 years ago? The Wintrean voter demographic has changed a lot since then. If you need an example, look at the very bill up to vote. A year ago it would be unthinkable that the UH would be made up of all Burners because everyone thought Doc and the select few others were just memeing. Now here we are with a resolution at ratification to dissolve the regional legislature. If such rapid change could happen in a year, then what could happen in 5 years? I might be injecting a little too much personal bias here, but the last time we discussed the option, many people were amenable to an OA (to think that only several months ago I was debating against an OA is funny, but I digress). I would be happy to discuss such options after the bill passes, but it is still my opinion and the opinion of most of the dissenters of the bill that we should probably have come up with at least an idea of what we're thinking of doing next before we burn this bridge.

    A Provisional Government

As I said, nothing would really change.  People would still be able to jump into the new Storting/Open Assembly system, elections would still happen, literally the only thing that would realistically change is that all mentions of the Storting and whatnot will disappear from the Fundamental Laws, and Moot himself would be delegating all of these tasks rather than them being coded into law.

Also, Thane elections will still happen.
