Aethelia was asking why we don't ban, let alone put up with people like Justinian, and I brought up Gov to illustrate how Wintreath treats people in its community. Also, Wintermoot brought up Gov in his AMA, and the multiple mentions in this short period of time seems to have made Aethelia curious about the person.

That...seems like a comparison of Justinian to Govindia, and in the very, very passing familiarity I have gleaned from 'reviewing that one linked thread among others'... That strikes me as a little harsh of a judgement there, since in no way has he harassed anyone to the extent it seems suggested Govindia did.

Which now makes me think, and I guess I'll piggyback this onto my response to Tau because there doesn't seem to be a great other thing to quote - Aethelia, he might have opinions you disagree with and a...less than desirable way of expressing them, but that (mostly the 'shitty way of expressing said opinions' part; he's said some heinous things in the past I'm 99% certain he doesn't genuinely think) doesn't strike me as 'starting shit' with people, just an admittedly shitty method of carrying out a debate. It doesn't strike me that it's affected his relationship with anyone - both parties seemed to recognize that the argument got somewhat heated, which isn't really surprising since political ones almost invariably do, and both said things they shouldn't have. That's not bannable behavior; that might be worth words of censure, but I think if you can recognize afterwards that some things were said that shouldn't have been then you're 90% of the way there. The problem arises when people don't or can't recognize that, because that's when you seem to have a problem - and to bring this tangent back, appeared to be the problem with Govindia (again from my very, very passing 'familiarity' with that). He says outrageous, inflammatory shit because that's tragically the state of political discourse in this country. I can recognize you might have a problem with this because of things in your life, which is understandable, but I'm also certain that he'd be willing to accommodate those if he were aware of them because thus far he's struck me as a reasonable human being.
I'd urge you to give him another chance, and if you really find him as intolerable as you currently think, well, not every extension of an olive branch ends fantastically.

i concede he's a wee bit of a fuckboy, but he'll pay for those sins during the skeleton war anyway, which will clearly win the avatar contest if you all have any taste whatsoever

Not really, my thinking was more along the lines of "if we offered that many second chances even to Gov, who's banned from basically all major regions out there, why do you think we'd ban Justinian, considering that he hasn't even done anything remotely ban-worthy"

Though that also kinda implies some passing judgement of Gov, which I don't want to do either, especially as I don't know him as well as some other Wintreans do and generally remained uninvolved in the related controversies

I wondered why I suddenly had a like from that.

I've been thinking a lot about suffering lately...there seems to be so much of it in the world today, both physical and mental, and I feel that if I'm to have any purpose in life, it's to alleviate suffering, particularly emotional and mental suffering. I think it was an subconscious desire until recently...one that led me to nurture Wintreath into a peaceful, calm, open, personable and friendly community where someone can build connections they can draw strength and happiness from, in some cases connections they can't have offline, because they're not ready to open up about things in order to have them (such as coming out as LGBT).

Recently, I've been reading and practicing mindfulness, and for someone like me, it's something easier said than done. I have a tendency to worry and dwell any potential suffering, until it becomes suffering unto itself whether or not the potential thing actually ever happens, and when I'm not actively dwelling on those things, I'm distracting myself with videos, games, porn, and other shallow things. And just to say, I don't consider those things in themselves to be shallow, I just consider the way I sometimes use them to be.

So like I said, for someone like me, it's easier said than done, but at the same time I can see the value in it...in bringing yourself to the present, realizing that your thoughts and emotions are just those, and accepting those thoughts and emotions without judgement while focusing on what's drawing you into the present (like when I practice mindful meditation, I use my breath as a focus).

I wonder if there would be interest in discussing mindfulness and practicing mindfulness meditation here? I think it would go well with our community if there's any interest in it.
