Wintreath's Mid-Year Awards Gala
And that's a wrap on Wintreath's first-ever Mid-Year Awards, a program put together by Michi to recognize people and aspects of Wintreath in over 20 categories! Unfortunately, it's not possible to cover every category in one edition, but I wanted to highlight some of the categories that really stood out. Wintreath's Finest of the Mid-Year
Winner: Marzipan
Runners-Up: Stigya, Svipjoth, Michi
This is a Mid-Year version of our monthly Wintreath's Finest contest, where Citizens vote for the person they feel went above and beyond for the month before. Marzipan's victory is likely due to their work as Thane of Gaming, where they've taken our long-running aspiration of becoming a gaming community and turned it into a reality. Beyond that, they're a friendly, warm, and fun presence in our community, which has been much more vibrant since their return. Stigya, Svipjoth, and Michi have also made their own waves in Wintreath this year, and they were worthy contenders to this award as well.Spirit of Wintreath

Runners-Up: Michi, Uniopolis
The Spirit of Wintreath award is for those who "best encompasses Wintreath's values of being an open, friendly, and positive force in the region". While Marzipan has been building our gaming dreams, TGN has been coming into his own this year as well. He's one of the most active people across ALL our main platforms, active in government as part of the Cabinet, and has started organizing his own games and events this year with great success. Michi and Uniopolis also stand out for their positivity and willingness to help or contribute to anything that they can, and fortunately they both won other categories in the contest.Best Flag in NationStates

Michi's flag has once again shown his creativity and flair to make an impact on our community, being the only flag that got more than one vote. In this case, he merged the region's new flag (which he also designed) with the Aliens Avatar of the Month theme for July to create something that truly stood out. And as Delegate of Wintreath, his flag has a prominent place on our region page for it to stand out on!Most Cheerful/Postivie Member

Winner: Uniopolis
Runner-Up: Michi
In her time on our NationStates RMB, Uniopolis has impressed just about everybody with her constant positivity, wholesomeness, and kindness towards all, even during times of tension and drama. Even more impressive, she won this award without being on our forums or Discord, where the community's most prominent members tend to reside. She even got twice as many votes as Michi, who many will know is no slouch in the positivity department.Best Game on the Discord Server

Winner: Jackbox
Runners-Up: Cards Against Humanity
And the awards weren't just limited to people. For Best Game on the Discord server, Jackbox edged out Cards Against Humanity by a single vote. Cards Against Humanity has been a mainstay in Wintreath for years now, thanks to the Zaphyr bot created by Wuufu. However, Jackbox has only came into being this year as a regular game as part of Marzipan's efforts to revive gaming in the region. The results of this category suggest that those efforts have had quite an impact with people who like Jackbox games.Best Game on the Forums

Winner: Werewolf
Runners-Up: None with more than 1 vote
And on the forums, Werewolf continues to prove its dominance by being the only game that got more than one vote! Werewolf has been one of the main drivers of activity on our forums for years now, and it's so prominent we have a dedicated government official to oversee it, so it's not surprising that it's also the most popular game on the forums. Looks like our other forum games will have to step it up!

Laurentus Departs from WintreathLaurentus (
Laurentus States) announced his resignation from his positions in Wintreath and his departure from "a community that sure gave me some fond memories". Lau was serving as Jarl of Foreign Affairs and Chancellor of the Landsraad, but has been a major part of Wintreath since he first arrived from New Hyperion in 2015. He will certainly be missed in our community, and we hope that he will return in the future.
Nominations for Chancellor of the Landsraad Open!With Lau's resignation, nominations have opened for Chancellor of the Landsraad, our open-assembly legislature. The Landsraad had been inactive since its creation in March 2021, but the recent proposal to commend
Stigya and discussions on amending requirements for Citizenship have raised interest in the legislature. Due to the renewed interest, we now have 4 candidates running for Chancellor:
Arenado (
North Gralend),
Chanku (
Terra cinis tonitrua et justitia),
Svipjoth, and
Joslisonoria. Standing is open until
August 16th for anybody else that wants to run for the position!
Lau's resignation also left a vacancy at the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a position that has traditionally been difficult to fill. That wasn't the case this time though, with
Dawsinian taking over the position the next day. Daws is extremely experienced in the Wintreath Cabinet, now being the first person to serve as Jarl of three separate ministries in his time (Defense, Regional Affairs, and now Foreign Affairs). Congratulations to him for becoming a Jarl yet again!
Thane of Gaming
Marzipan (
New Montith) announced today on the Discord that
Neon will be hosting an always-on Stardew Valley server for 10 players (including her) beginning on
August 13th! This has sparked lots of interest in the community, as Stardew Valley has often came up as a game that Wintreans would like to play with each other, and now they will finally have the chance. Thanks to the Dungeon Masters and especially Neon for making something like this happen!
We also just started running another game on the Discord: Assassin! Hosted by Chanku with rules she designed specific for our Discord, this is a simple casual game that can be played in the midst of regular chats. The host gives you a target. If they post, post a kill message in response before somebody else posts...if you're successful, you're one step closer to victory. If someone else manages to post right before you, you're exposed and can be targeted by all players yourself. The game is off to a promising start, so thanks to Chanku for organizing the game!
