  • Madame Speaker, honorable members, I wish to propose the following bill:

    Quote
The Citizenship and Demonym Amendment Act

    1) This Act shall be cited as the Citizenship and Demonym Amendment Act.

    2) The following shall be added to the Citizenship and Demonym Act as follows:
    Quote
2.5 Applicants who are reapplying for Citizenship and would not be denied under any other section of this Act, and have accumulated seventy-five (75) posts, shall have their application on hold for a period of one week, at which point the application shall be approved if the applicant has made thirty forum posts outside of designated spam areas within that period.

This amendment ensures former citizens show that they deserve to become a citizen in Wintreath again after deserting the region.

I open it up for debate for 48 hours.

  • Really... Not sure where to stand on this one...

It seems reasonable, but kind of harsh in a way.

I suggest lowering the hold on the application, but do agree that they have to have a certain amount of posts in that given time.

Also : Ex Post Facto. :D

  • I'm not in favour of this. Despite the fact it's a good idea in theory, I feel it'd push away members who'd like to reapply but don't want to wait 2 weeks. Nationstates is a very fluid game by definition and the easy process by which a person can change regions makes this 2 week waiting period a little too extreme.

  • I am in favour of the principle behind this bill, however I would agree that 2 weeks is rather extreme. I'm in agreement with Polaris in that we should lower the wait time.

  • I'm in favour of reducing it as well. The principles behind this make sense but I think 2 weeks in a game where switching regions is as simple as clicking a button is a little steep.

Perhaps amend it to one week or five days? I'm not sure.

  • I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to reducing the time to one week, rather than two weeks.

I agree with Wintermoot though that we won't necessarily lose any potential members coming back to the region that would stay here long term with this legislation in place. If former citizens who chose to leave should have to show a level commitment to the region. We don't want people simply to float in and out of the region showing no commitment to Wintreath.

  • I motion for a further 12 hours of debate on this, to be focused on the length of the hold placed on the returning citizen applications.

    Do I have a second?

  • Fantastic, I could support it fully if the hold time was cut from fourteen days down to seven.

  • I think that'd do nicely as a compromise: allows the reassurance of activity whilst not being such an obstacle to reapplying members :)

  • Doublepost, I know but Mootles suggested a 75 post requirement for returning members to be subjected to the two week period. Anyone with fewer posts than that is allowed in but those with 75 and over have to wait. Thoughts?

  • I motion we should extend the debating period another 24 hours? Taking our time over discussing a bill is no bad thing.

  • You actually can't make that motion, only I can as the speaker.

That having been said, I wholeheartedly agree that we need to extend the allotted time to make sure we get this right.

I motion for another 24 hours of debate on this topic.
