The impression I'm getting is that you're being difficult for the sake of being difficult, here. I'm sure this isn't true, but it's very easy for you to simply change the name, or your -notevenreal- last name to fit with the standards. It's not much to ask, surely?

That name has followed me quite confidently for a while now... It's meaning is not restricted to just this... It's more than a little important to me to keep it the same.

Also, thank you Weissreich...you've articulated my points exactly. When I announced support for families, I was using the informal NS conventions for families that I'm aware of. According to that convention, they can be part of multiple families by marrying into another one, but generally one person takes the name of the other or they use hyphenated names for both families. There's no precedent that I'm aware of for having a family name that no members actually use individually.
