    1) I am Tommy. I am representing my nation named Frankerna. I created it on a whim not so long ago and I just had fun with it and here I am. I have many interests. I like sports, specifically baseball and Hockey. I actually want to be a pro sportscaster one day. I do run 2 YT channels. One is baseball one is a hockey. Channel. I haven’t done much on the baseball channel other than rip radio calls as of yet. I will put links just in case anybody would like to check them out. I am also part of the LGBT community (I’m gay). I am not in the most accepting family and am currently closeted. I live in the US. I also love music. I’m somewhat progressive, but I am not a crazy leftist or anything like that. That is most of my life in one paragraph. I am still quite young but currently in high-school (a Catholic high-school) in my area.

    2) Eastern Standard time.

    3) I was looking at the submissions just to see if there was a region I liked. This happened to be the first one that caught my eye and it was what I was looking for. I got kind of bored and yeah I’m here now.

    4) I already stated my nation at the beginning, but it is called Frankerna. It is named after me.

    5) I’m not on discord and I dont plan to do that any time soon

  • Hey there @Tfranks1318! Sorry for the delay...it's been a busy few days for me, but your application is approved!

I'm not big into sports myself, but that's neat that you're so involved with it...do you see your YT channels as a way to get into broadcasting more in the future? Is it just something you do for fun? I'm sorry that you have to remain closeted, but unfortunately a lot of people are in that situation. Just makes it even more important to be able to connect with fellow LGBTQ+ people where you can, such as online...I hope you're able to find that connection here. :)

I know you said you don't plan on using Discord, and that's totally fine, but in case you change your mind in the future here's some Citizen-specific information about it (we give this information to all new Citizens, really there's no pressure):

    1) You should be able to see the #governance channel on Discord. This is where we discuss community governance, both IC and OOC.

    2) You can now join hangouts, which are private Discord channels for portions of our community so they can freely talk about things. We currently have hangouts for the LGBTQ+ and furry communities...if you're involved in either and would like to join, just DM or ping a Discord op (currently myself, Michi, or Wuufu) and let us know. :)

Otherwise, just let us know if you have any questions or need help settling in! :)

  • Thanks for the support. One of my closest friends who I went to grade school with is in the exact same situation. He goes to a different school than me now but we are still in touch and I see him once every month or so. He is out to more people than me but still not out to his parents. Other than that, I am new to this and can what else is there to do besides the issues? I find it kind of annoying that everything is done by the nation states system. I would like to be more involved than the game allows for.
I know you said you’re personally not into sports, but what I am doing is running my own custom league with custom teams. You can actually watch some of the games. The schedule is posted on the community tab. I think for the playoffs, I want to do previews instead as their own videos. Then each game that is shown has a recap that I make all by myself. Currently it’s the hockey channel. I called the league the SIHL (Summer Ice Hockey League). It started in June and should be done before November. The playoffs will probably go into December. Next Summer I will do it again but flip over to MLB the show 25 and start a custom league there. I don’t what I want to call it. I am more excited since MLB the Show allows for a lot more customiziation. Every summer I plan to flip between the two leagues. I do actually want to end up in the NHL and or the MLB day as a play by play announcer. I also will do smaller tournaments during the spring and fall for both channels. Sorry about making this one big wall of text but hopefully you can answer my questions.

  • NationStates isn't the most exciting game...issues are the main thing, but you can also put up factbooks about your nation, take part in the World Assembly, chat with people on the region page (which I see you're doing!), or hang out here on the forums. We also have a Minecraft server if you're into that. Was there something specific that lead you to Wintreath? Maybe I can help you better with that. :)

You're not alone though...a lot of people find NS itself either boring or frustrating, which is why regional communities offer so much more. I don't think NS would exist as a community if it weren't for the work the regions put into it (something I wish NS staff would recognize).

That sounds fun, I know in the past there's been roleplay sports competitions where nations come up with teams and then there's different games where winners are chosen at random (usually the host fills in some RP commentary too). I have to admit, I don't really get it...it seems to me that that it'd be more fun if nations could have different stats behind their teams that would adjust their chances of doing different things in the games. But like I said, I'm not into sports, so what do I know? :P

In terms of what there is to do, most of the interesting stuff is done by regional communities as Wintermoot said earlier.

Some aspects of the game to get involved in are:

    - Roleplay, there are many regions that center around roleplay, and others that have roleplay subcommunities. We don't have any in wintreath, but you can also RP on the NS forums (https://forum.nationstates.net/viewforum.php?f=3&sid=329d534c65ddbc635e91923a4b89357b) I noticed you said you were into sports, and there's actually an NS forum specifically for sports RP: https://forum.nationstates.net/viewforum.php?f=7

    - The WA, and more specifically the GA. The GA is basically if the UN had the power to pass binding legislation for all of its members, and deals with that kind of stuff. If you do want to get involved in that, this is the link to its NS forum: https://forum.nationstates.net/viewforum.php?f=9&sid=329d534c65ddbc635e91923a4b89357b The other part of the WA, the SC, mostly deals with Gameplay, which is the part of the game that deals with interregional politics.

    - r/d, also known as raiding/defending is a major aspect of Gameplay. This is the closest the game has to any military action, as it consists of raiders trying to either tag (vandalize with promotional messaging) or occupy (and either destroy or size as a trophy) other regions, as well as defenders trying to stop said raiders. r/d is a team effort no matter what side you're on, so you're not going to be able to do that on your own. We don't have a military or participate in r/d here in wintreath, so if you want to do that you need to join another region.

    - Often regions will have some form of regional government with legislatures and executive branches you can participate in. Wintreath doesn't really have this, although once upon a time in earlier days before my time here it used to.

    - Card farming. NS has a cards minigame where you can collect cards. Some people are really dedicated to this and will spend hours using scripts to farm cards across dozens, hundreds, and sometimes thousands of puppet accounts. This is NS's trading cards forum: https://forum.nationstates.net/viewforum.php?f=42

If you want more info on anything specific, just ask. I have a bunch of resources for most of them that I can give to you, although for others all I can do is point you towards the discord server for that part of the game.
