All of our events this month are dedicated to Out and Equal, an organization dedicated to the rights and equitable treatment of LGBTQ+ workers.

So I'm very cognizant of the way Korea treats lgbtqia+ people and its archaic practices and as such with regards to this play list I thought that for someone who is primarily going to add kpop to the list as a general rule of my musical tastes it would be short sighted at best but upon lots of reflection I think it would be unfair to both be and the kpop idols to hold them accountable for the decisions of their government. 

Still being cognizant of Korean culture I decided to expressly and only add songs by bands and artists that have publicly and unabashedly shown their support of the lgbtqia+ community even in the face of the certain backlash they could and likely would face from fans and potentially their studios.

But most of... if not all of my favorite groups are notoriously lgbtqia+ allies

With that being said I will compile a list here shortly

Clocks by Coldplay

I've always felt the lyrics are very applicable to my personal experience in the closet and my desire for acceptance and a place to belong

Birds by Coldplay

Its message of love against all odds is something that, again, I feel can be applicable to the the LGBT community, especially in more restrictive countries

This one has less of a specific meaning, I just think it pops and, well, do what you want :]

Gravity by Coldplay

This one I put more as a nod to a certain special someone ;]

GUY.EXE by Superfruit
The song is fun, the video is fun...overall, it's probably the most fun song on any of my playlists. It's just got a great, outgoing vibe to it...

Neverland by Holland
Holland is the first openly gay kpop idol, who bootstrapped his own efforts to get into the scene after he was rejected by the Korean entertainment companies for being gay. The video for this song actually received a 19+ rating in South Korea just because it shows him kissing another guy, which kinda speaks to some of the issues that Abbi brought up. Still, it's awesome to know that somebody is fighting the good fight there, and I hope this will lead to more acceptance of LGBTQ+ people in kpop in the future, especially as it becomes a worldwide phenomenon.

Blackpink ft Lady Gaga - Sour Candy

Song has lines about being yourself not letting anyone stop you from being you and only letting people who let you be you get close to you. It also talks about being a hard shelled candy. Hard on the outside to protect yourself while being sweet on the inside once you can trust someone. Feels like the way I've grown to try to protect myself from harm. 

(G)IDLE - Tomboy

Song is about how this guy wants the perfect blonde barbie doll so they breaks up with him because they doesn't want to pretend to be anything they aren't. Because they are a tomboy. There's a line towards the end that repeats multiple times "is neither man nor woman" pretty dope Song especially in Korea where lgbt rights aren't the greatest 

CL - Lover Like Me

This one is more of a personal one to me since when I came out I got broken up with and this was kind of an anthem for me about how just because I'm finding my true self doesn't mean you'll ever find someone like me or better than me. Probs wouldn't have stung so bad if the girl didn't say she was bi but break up with me for being a girl. So this is kinda always a song I associate with me coming out.
