  • I've wanted to put together a history of Wintreath for awhile now...we're 8 years old, and there's a lot of history that most people only know parts of. So I've decided to try to spend a little bit of time every day putting one together! I started by dividing our history into ages, defined by events that I feel were pivotal in guiding the direction of Wintreath overall:

I plan to spend every day putting together a history of a particular age that's chosen by a random generator...mostly to create variety for me, but also to keep from focusing more time on any particular time. I plan to put together a summary for each age, put together basic news and facts, and then try to delve into the details. This will probably be a long project, but it should be fun.

Today's selection was the Gilded Age, which I named because of the high activity and prosperity of the region during the time. You can read what I have so far here, including a link to see the governments that made up the age.

Since obviously there's more to our history than just my perspective and recollection, I'd love to get feedback so we can create the most accurate text that we can. The entire project for now is very much a draft, and will likely change based on feedback and input from others and on what I find as I research the details of each age. But in the end, I hope that Wintreans will get something from having an easily-accessible written copy of our community history. :)

  • Interesting. In my mind 2017 (which you call "Silent") was the height/golden age of Wintreath community. There was so much going on on the forums, lots of classic Wintreath Werewolf games, Arena gets developed and refined, there was a really great Summersend, very lively spam games, significant revival of Underhusen activity, etc. Maybe it's defined by it being after the death of the IRC and the explosion of the Discord (and since I've never been very active on either, that also shapes my view of the times), making it the forum era.

  • @taulover: That's an interesting perspective. I have to admit, my own memory on that time is fuzzy so I relied heavily on a 2019 discussion where people talked about that time being a silent area in government because people were disgruntled after the failure of the Second Constitutional Convention. I even got the name from that discussion.

It may be that the era needs to be renamed to something like the Culture or Forum era...we'll see when I start delving into stuff from that time.

  • As it happens, random generator picked the Gilded Age again, so today I went through the announcements and then all forum topics to create a list of events. I also saved a few links to use as notes for potential sections of interest:
    • The Last Hurrah of the Storting? (this period was perhaps the last time the Storting was very active, and plays a role in the events surrounding Chanku)
    • Regarding Chanku (the events leading up to her censure)
    • The Lead-up to the Schism (from Chanku's actions on the Discord to concerns about moderation to the weekly meeting and end of the period)

I also updated the government graph, as I was wrong in saying the position of Thane of Regional Outreach was vacant from 7/15/2019 to the next election. Emoticonius was appointed to the position on 8/6, then was elected in September's Thane elections to continue in the position.

So all I've added at this point are more links, but if you want to check it out the link is still here.

So far everything I've done has been based on a review of the forums. I expect there'll be a lot more when I review the Discord, since so much that happened is based on there.

I strongly agree, though i joined just half way through 2017. It's unfortunate how things changed. People stopped roleplaying, the under/overhusen are gone. Most of us from that time left with it. Big sad.

    Oh boy. v_v

You can read the summary I've put together and a link to the Schism government graph here. I've also updated the age list with links to summaries that are available at the moment. :)

Hopefully when our history is put together it won't be all about the people who left or we kicked out. That would be depressing.

Hmmm maybe I also would categorize the time periods into ages differently, based on my own personal memory. In particular, there was probably a peak of forum culture in mid-late 2017 / early 2018, cresting after the Discord became official, but while the forum community was still very strong.

It's really nice seeing this idea coming into fruition! I think that some sort of pinned, mod-only thread with posts outlying these eras or any other significant events would be beneficial for those of us that are new, such as myself. That way, the history of Wintreath can be accessed in a way that allows for a descriptive and informative history.
