Title
1. This act shall be cited as the Gerrick Commendation Act.

Recognition
2. The region of Wintreath recognizes the accomplishments and contributions to Wintreath by Gerrick, including but not limited to:
a) Significant contributions to the region as Jarl of Culture for nearly three years,
b) Significant recruitment,
c) The creation and hosting of the Arena and Diplomacy games,
d) Significant contributions to The Monarch's Game Bag and recruitment contests,
e) Significant contributions to the yearly Summersend Festivals,
f) Significant monetary contributions in support of Wintreath,
g) Serving as a Skrifa to the Underhusen and as an Ambassador to an allied region,
h) Contributions to official Wintreath publications, including the creation of the regular Orendi column, "The Culture Review,"
i) Original creation, graphic design, and maintenance of the badge system.

3. The Storting hereby awards Gerrick the Commendation of Wintreath.

I definitely support this Act! Gerrick has done a lot for the region, and I think that deserves some recognition - once Crushita has the Speaker's Office up and running I'll introduce this Bill to the floor.

Some suggestions:

h) Contributions to official Wintreath publications, including the creation of the regular Orendi column, "The Culture Review,"
i) Original creation, graphic design, and maintenance of the badge system.

Would also suggest putting commas after the lettered statements (with a period for the last one) to be consistent with previous Commendation Acts.

To be honest, I'm surprised we waited until now to even talk about this, since he's been incredibly deserving of the honor for a while.

Insufficiently aggressive for my taste.
I'm strongly opined we should be handing out Paragonships like candy to people with a track record like Gerrick's, particularly as we're seeing Paragons return to us in the present.
I still support it because it's better than nothing but IMO we should be pushing a Paragon-ship.

I also support this act, Gerrick has done great things to help this region and deserves to be awarded for his efforts.
in regards to Paragonship, I was reading one of the older votes and saw that it was prefered to give the title Paragon to members who have left the region for good as kind of a last gift of thanks so are we planning on changing this system since Paragons like Weissreich have returned to the region?

I don't really see how Paragons returning in the present is an argument for changing the tradition of Paragonhood only being awarded to people who have departed from the region. People do leave Wintreath for many years and then return, and during that time they are no longer a part of the region and so a special honor for such departed members still makes sense. If they then return in the future then that's great and also super cool to have highly honored departed members of the region (i.e. Paragons) coming back, but in and of itself I don't think it does anything to support making Paragonhood more widespread.

Yeah, it's a nice honor to give those who leave and have done a great service to the region as a way of saying "you'll always have a place here if you decide to come back."

I'm okay not changing that and handing it out to currently active members.

I feel weird saying this but I tend to think of being given the Paragon title as similar to canonisation. People are only elevated to sainthood after they've died, the main difference here being that people generally have the option to come back. So I agree with Ogun, taulover and Pengu on that front.

My time as an active part of Wintreath hasn't overlapped much with Gerrick's but the achievements set out here are impressive and the strength of feeling from the community is clear and unanimous, so I'm happy to support this.

Gerrick is definitely worthy of commendation. We have been extraordinarily lucky to have a series of great Jarls of Culture, each of whom have advanced the culture in our region in their own way and added their own flavour to it. Gerrick took the culture that Pengu planted during his time as Jarl and ran with it...keeping everything active, adding his own games like Arena, and helping others get their own ideas going off the ground. Then once I started things like Citizen of the Month (now Wintreath's Finest), Gerrick ran with that too and made sure they were reliably ran every month. And now, even in retirement he continues to maintain aspects of our culture, such as the badge system and more recently reviving Diplomacy games.

Paragonhood originally started out as Honorary Citizenship, for people who had made a huge impact on our region but could no longer maintain the requirements of regular Citizenship. At some point I played Dragon Age and thought Paragon was a cooler name than Honorary Citizenship, but that's the basis of the precedent that people who have departed are made Paragons.

I gotta say, this has been a major boost to my ego. I appreciate all the kind words everyone's given as well as the commendation. Thanks, everyone!
