    Out of Character Discussion Thread

Hello everyone!!  As stated in the OP, this is the OOC discussion thread for the happenings of Deep Space Wintreath.  Firstly, I'd like to use this thread to ask people for suggestions about where exactly we should situate our Deep Space Wintreath.  The Cardassian Cardassian equivalent ;) border?  Near a very anomalous region of space?  In the core of Wintreath Space as the primary Spacedock?  (That one would likely focus more on political intrigue.)  I'm all ears and I just want to make sure everyone is pretty happy with the setting before I work out the exact details of the IC section in the next couple of weeks!!  Thanks everyone!! :D

In the meantime, here is the link to the Character Applications Thread if you want to start fleshing out characters!  Hopefully this will be pretty cool!! :D

  • Why not........both at the border and close to the core of Wintreath? After all, we can assume that while there has been expansion there may have not been to much expansion.

Also, Robin, a quick questions I wanted to ask...can I play my original character from the first expedition? HKR?

  • I'm appearing once again for a RP! And this one seems to tickle my fancy. Hopefully I'll be able to keep with it. And I'm hopeful it doesn't just die. Deep Space 9 was a very interesting setting for me regarding the Star Trek shows. If I'm reading this correctly, the same type of setting is trying to be replicated for the roleplayers of Wintreath. You can count me in on this one. I'll get started on my character application here soon.

  • I think it would be interesting if the station was placed near the farthest known edge of Wintrean space. The crew aboard DSW would have to deal with ships exploring the outer portions of the galaxy, as well as unknown threats from there as well.

  • Okay I think the general consensus is something akin to the actual DS9 in Star Trek lol.  We'll put it on the edge of Wintreath space by a couple of not super friendly powers and unknown space.

So for the star system DSW is in, should it include more than one planet with life?  Should that planet be neutral?  Perhaps primitive?  Perhaps several inhabited worlds?  A couple of gas giants?  Any preferences here or I'll make some executive decisions lol :P

I think there should at least be an inhabitable planet teeming with life, but maybe it's a dark forest (i.e. everything wants to murder the colonists). So it's a really rough colony that has a difficult grasp on any sort of civilisation level.

  • And maybe an asteroid field somewhere. I don't know where, but an asteroid field would make for some interesting repairs/fights.

  • Three small inhabited planets separated by gas Giants and an asteroid field. All three contain variations of the same species. The first one is advanced and works with the federation begrudgingly. The second is less advanced, seeming to stem from survivors of a shuttle crash long ago and abandoned/ forgotten by the original. By the time they were discovered again, they bore too much resentment for the original. The third is a primative version of society, a group of pacifists who left the homeworks to live without technology. They tolerate the spacefarers, but could aren't exactly friendly.

  • How about just one inhabited planet but the inhabitants are neutral with valuable rare resources but not really willing to share with anyone.

  • So presently I'm thinking a system near the borders with two powers that are hostile to each other, but within conditionally Wintreath territory after being called in by the inhabitants of one of the two inhabited worlds in the system, who have approximately 2070 technology.  The other planet in the system can have some vital resource that companies within Wintreath are pushing to extract, and that one can have comparatively primitive hyper-religious population which left (like space Amish but fanatical.)  There will be 5 inner planets, an asteroid belt, 3 gas giants, and ((insert space phenomenon here as necessary)).  The gas giants will all have moon systems, and I think it might be interesting to have Wintreath be terraforming a moon of one of the gas giants, but don't quote me there yet.

I think that this incorporates most setting suggestions, now just to work out the political scene and stuff.  Also, we need to get more people.

My goal is to get this all set by the end of the week so we don't lose momentum, but also get more people to start by then.  Not that having only 6 or 7 people initially is bad, because we can add more as they trickle in as well, but I want to sort of get a core-ish crew down by the time we start.
