>Examine the piece of paper.
You pull the note out from under the potatoes. It's about the size of your palm, crisp, and has a four short sentences typed on it.

Knock knock!
You're almost there.
Can you count for me?
One two three!

You have acquired one (1) note.

You gather the potatoes in your arms and beeline for the fireplace. They're cold and glossy to the touch.

You take one up and-- what the hell why are they made out of plastic?! Who makes a safe and puts plastic potatoes in them‽ Who puts potatoes in a safe locked with two convoluted locks and then tosses someone into the room with them! Argh!

In your frustrated and repetitive attempts, you manage to forcibly ram a potatoe onto a hook. Hah. Take that, room maker.

I'm beginning to suspect that a certain potato prophet trapped us in here as part of a sacrificial rite to a pagan potato god. He invented this room because this god of his really likes the taste of someone who just solved a difficult problem in the cold.

Move Twenty Five

>Using the potatoes, knock on the door in time with the buzzing sound. Three times. Bzz bzz bzzzzt or whatever.
You take one of the potatoes and tap it against the door three times. Nothing appears to happen.

Hmmm, we have a note, 5 potatoes (one securely hooked on one of 5 hooks).. We have our 7 shirts and our 6 candles, our 5 hooks and our 5 potatoes, and an admonition to count something. A key, a safe, a pair of shoes on broken lights, 2 skis and a rickety cupboard. A couch a fireplace and some ashes. A closed door with a door knocker.
Oh.

Move Twenty Six

You knock the knocker three times. Nothing appears to happen.

Move Twenty Seven

When you knock twice with the knocker, you hear a soft tone. When you knock thrice with the knocker, the same note plays. When you knock four times, a buzz like a single dial tone plays. The remaining knocks appear to have no effect.

Just like the last time you tried to open the door, the doorknob refuses to move.

> Knock on the door once. Pause. Knock on the door twice. Pause. Knock on the door thrice. Pause.

You knock once on the door. Nothing appears to happen.

You knock twice on the door. You hear a soft tone.

You attempt to open the door. And just like the last time, the doorknob refuses to move.

So we have 2 sounds with three patterns of knocks. Some tests.. 2 and 3 make the same sound? Perhaps a pause isn't purging the system's memory such that a knock then pause then two knocks is the same as three knocks and then a pause? Hm.

Move Thirty

You knock the knocker four times. You hear a dial-tone buzz.

After hearing both sounds, you think you can make some observations about each. The first sound you hear is a soft one, almost like someone quietly tapped the "Middle C" key on a piano. The second tone sounds exactly like a dial tone, like someone abruptly hung up on you. It sounds like both sounds are being made within the door. A device of some sort must be directly behind the knocker. You judge that the second sound is longer than the first by half a second.
