That was his goal from the beginning, so he should continue on his path. He never really liked his current job either.

Sorry for taking last night off, it was my last exam of the semester yesterday and I went out and thought I'd take the evening off.

Anyway it seems the vote was 5 to 2 to 1: thus Assistant Product Manager won this time

Billy has chosen to take up Harriet's old position he gets a few trainees to occasionally boss around and is even able exert a small amount of influence on the product design and branding.

The constant commuting around does grow tiring but his new boosted salary and getting to chat to his friends at both the plants and the regionally HQ do make it somewhat worth it, the economic climate for computers isn't looking as good as it was a few years ago, so there is a big push on trying to get new markets interested in these devices and competition is intense between the large companies.

New Employee Status Form

One day a couple months into his new position Billy is sitting at one of his favorite downtown coffee shops, zoned out and relishing in the short break afforded to him for lunch. Suddenly he spies his counterpart from Behemoth Systems (MMC's largest American based competitor) sitting a few tables down from him, he seems to be talking to a representative from Nippon Interactive (MMC's largest foreign competitor based in Asia). Billy gets up to go and say "hello" and maybe get some chat with his counterparts but by the time he has started walking they have both left quite hurriedly...

Nevertheless he still walks over to the table and his eye spots a bulky binder full of files sitting on the floor next to the Behemoth manager's seat...

What does Billy do with the binder?

Billy looks over at his counterpart's table. He's been having tomato soup.

He almost gets up to bring it back to the man, but then he notices the brand; Heinz. Billy looks in disgust. The infidel doesn't deserve this charity, clearly he should keep the info and use it to gain an advantage in dealings regarding Behemoth[3], after all, not everyone on the regional board is trustworthy. Some of them even drink tomato juice. Tomato juice, wannabe soup, no croutons, no heat, just cold, sad disappointment.

Billy knows no soup-haters can get their hands on this, since they'd do nothing to credit him anyway.

Billy does a quick jog to catch up with his counterpart from Behemoth Systems, who at first shoots him a glare but begins to look very embarrassed and grateful when he see's the offered binder, he thanks Billy before getting in the back of a black car with the representative from Nippon Interactive.


The current market outlook isn't good for computing in the US, newspapers are saying the computer fad could be over and several large investors have been pulling out of MMC and all its competitors... this has presented the perfect environment for foreign companies like Nippon to swoop in and buy up all available and unguarded assets.

However MMC management sees no threat in Nippon and has assured its staff that it will be alright; after all Nippon Interactive specialists in silly little games, surely something so niche could never catch on in the states.

Memos have been going back and fourth about remaining vigilant in the company, Billy doesn't consider all this that serious until one day he comes into work to find an anonymous letter on his desk... It says that one of Billy's sales trainees has been receiving bribes from outside the company.

To investigate this claim he asks personnel to send up the trainee's pay records, and makes a separate call down to accounting to check his employee bank details. Once Billy has all the information it seems very clear that the trainee in question has definitely been receiving very large amounts of outside money, though oddly enough it mostly comes from some of MMC's customers.

Billy heads down to confront the trainee but upon asking him if he's been getting kickbacks he just says he "doesn't know anything about any money"...

What does Billy do?

Billy knows better than anyone how tempting it is to take bribes. After all, he once had to turn down a contract with Campbell's to put forth a motion to add soup vending machines to the canteen. He turned it down, of course. He couldn't risk the idea being turned down on the basis of his profiting off of it.

Billy decides to fire the man outright [1]. If he'd spoken up and given a reason at least (grateful clients, very nice grandparents) he could have accepted it, but now?

Billy sits down to a nice bowl of tomato soup. It looks like the market is going off computers and Billy can't help but feel responsible. perhaps a deal with Campbell's to buy one computer and get a can of soup free or something? No, he can't suggest that. Half of the board were in Heinz's pocket, they'd never bite, unless... Unless they were to bite into the new ultra-chunky chicken noodle soup by Campbell's.
