So that's 5 to 3 for buying fuel.

A very logical alternative to the expense of buying a whole new car! The Engineers happily let Billy join in exchange for paying the fuel.

The carpool is a great experience and Billy gets to become good friends with the guys, they often go out for drinks after hours and chat about everything from current events to office gossip... Ofcourse he occasionally also picks up the odd bit of Engineering advice.

MMC's main product line for the last few years had been the mighty m&m (Mega and Micro) "university computer" however the growing business market has led to the development and soon to be production of the m&m II "for all your business needs".


With time in the office Billy has become a valued member of the engineering team, and one of the most promising trainees.
The plant is preparing to refit to be able to produce the m&m II, in order to finish this quickly the engineering team has been split up into several task forces, each will work overseeing the refit.
Billy is one of the only trainees given the option to join the group of his choice.

Does he join:
[1] The Best Engineers.
[2] The Worst but Friendliest team.
[3] No-one, he works all on his own.

Are we sure that the company is making computersw, or are they secretly making delicous candy?

Anyways, [1] The Best Engineers. Billy is ambitious, and wants to learn. He's sure that the his newfound friends will understand, they're surely equally ambitious.

Billy selects option [1], the Best engineers

Billy has great plans and while working with the worst, but friendly engineers might be cool, at the end of the day, his job is all about teamwork, getting stuff done and having the maximum possible amount of time for soup.

He tried to invite a couple of his coworkers round for soup one day, but they refused. Something about getting a bad reaction to tomato soup. No matter, this company would bow to him one day and every puny mortal in it would be put to work in the pits of hell, mining the soup from the rocks and feeding their dark, tentacle-y overlord.

Billy devours his soup, trying not to cackle. Heh, these puny mortals are but tools for his soup empire, stretching all across the world, engulfing everything in it's path. For now though, Billy had to climb the ranks by making sure to associate himself with the best engineers and show himself to be a good team player.

Remember when I hadn't just sold out to massive soup companies?

However one day, 3 of the top engineers approach him, turns out Billy lives in the same nearby town as them, and they'd like to offer him to join their carpool; where they change who drives each week...

By joining The Best Engineers, Billy gets to work with his friends while simultaneously learning from them.

Perhaps Billy can turn the worst team around since he's supposed to be one of the most promising trainees. That'll look good to his boss who will see he's trying to put the company before himself.

While I appreciate the idea, these people have already been established to be bad engineers and are viewed as such, his association with them will be very unlikely to help him in any way.

Yes, it would be good to turn them around but looking at this logically, the superior is less likely to appreciate this than the actual work. In addition to all this, these people are confirmed soup-dislikers. No person who dislikes soup deserves to work with the most high emperor, on his crouton throne.

The point of these task forces is to complete the refit as quickly and as efficiently as possible. If one team drops severely behind schedule, the refit will not be completed quickly, and the M&M2 will not be being produced on schedule.

I love this juxtaposition.

Gotta remember this game is set in the 70s just now, Billy would have been in uni in the 60s and was probably born in the post war period. The game I'm using was made in 1982 as well. So the setting I think is meant to be a little hyperbolic but it's also a product of the times.

Oh...well, in that case he should quit playing around with those gadgets and get a real job in the defense sector. Everyone knows weapons is where it's at, and who knows if this whole computer thing will even go anywhere?

In any case, I'm going to go with [2] The Worst but Friendliest team for the same reasons as Gerrick. It's a lot easier to teach someone a skill than a disposition...so if he can improve the worst guys' skills he'll be seen as leadership material. On the other hand, if he conflicts with the 'best' people...or the 'best' people have egos to match their status, it could end in disaster.

Fortunately, it's already established that Billy is now good friends with the "best" engineers, so I don't think an issue is likely to arise there.

5 to 3 once again...

Billy spends the duration of the project working with the team he has come to know well, during his time working he has learned invaluable secrets of the engineering trade, and has made many new friends.

The project is completed ahead of schedule and it's Billy's team that recieves most of the credit!

Billy Potato's year as a trainee engineer is coming to a close; he has learned a lot and become quite popular in the department, even if he did have to endure the name "rookie" for most of his time there...

The economic boom of the previous years has begun to slow down slightly, and MMC has released its growth forecast as stable, mainly due to most of it's plants requiring refitting...

Billy is once again contacted by the MMC personnel team... They sadly inform him that there are currently no open positions as a full engineer, but they are very willing to provide several other options...

Overall Billy's staff report is good! He'll be remembered for:
-Being a Team Player
-Being friendly
-Having a "go-getter" approach to problems

Billy's friends recommend he take one of the higher up positions at the regional HQ downtown. They are: Salesperson level 4, Senior Accounting Clerk level 4 and Trainee Financial Analyst level 4, all positions Billy qualifies for... The guys say that in a year or so the plant will be ready to take him on as a full engineer, he's just got to wait it out at the regional HQ.

Billy's original manager Harriet Nance however has recommended him for another level 3 position as a Lead Assembler down on the factory floor.
