Repeal GAR #141- 'Permit Male Circumcision'

AFFIRMING the intent of General Assembly Resolution #141, 'Permit Male Circumcision', to allow the practice of circumcision within all World Assembly member-states,

HOWEVER CONCERNED with the apparent flaws in the resolution that infringe on a newborn's rights,

TROUBLED by the fact that this resolution allows circumcision, a painful and typically unnecessary medical procedure, to be legally performed on non-consenting newborns,

NOTING that, as of yet, there is still only inconclusive data regarding the potential health benefits of the procedure,

DISTURBED by the fact that under the provisions of GAR#141, member-states are granted the power to enforce any laws they wish regarding circumcision that don't ban the practice; including government-enforced circumcision,

REGRETTING that patients in some member-states with high circumcision complication rates may not be granted the power to make an informed medical decision regarding the process,

FURTHER REGRETTING that although circumcision is often practiced for religious purposes, a newborn is not of the mental capability to choose a religion, thereby infringing on the newborn's rights,

HEREBY REPEALS General Assembly Resolution #141.
Delegate's Opinion: A fairly straightforward and simple repeal... And on I'm inclined to agree with. While the bit about pain is there only for the purposes of shock and such the rest is largely valid. I am never one to support dangerous cosmetic surgeries and for this reason I am in Support of this one.

For! Yes, for the usual reasons, but also for personal ones this time. To be honest, I wish I hadn't been circumcised, and I find it really upsetting that this procedure is carried out routinely on boys shortly after they're born when they have no say in what they want. In the real world, I'm also very disturbed that the pro-circumcision camp is now trying to push it as a way to reduce STDs and particularly AIDS. Even if it's true, that doesn't make it any more right. You know, we would eliminate appendicitis if we automatically removed everyone's appendixes, but we don't do that, do we? So I don't see why we automatically remove foreskin for no medical reason.

As a sidenote it's also not true that it helps reduce the chance of STIs... That was a myth popularized by a poorly done study which did not account for the type of people that do get that done and such...

 I vote for..mainly because I just don't believe circumcision is right, especially for unconsenting new-borns...it gets rid of one of the most pleasurable places of the human body for males, having one of the highest places for nerve endings in the human body....and I must thank my dad for making sure that I wasn't succumb to the operation...

I see everyone's points but shouldn't the practice be allowed. I understand it might infringe on a baby's rights but circumcision is the parents choice for the baby... The practice should be allowed for all those who choose it since it doesn't harm or damage the child. Just my opinion at least.

To be honest I'm rather conflicted here. I want to vote Aye, as to repeal it, however I want to vote Nay as this would outlaw the practice, at least the way it was worded. Hrm.....I'm going to not vote atm

Just to point out... Voting for or against this does not mean the circumcision will be illegal in every WA nation... It just means that you can have laws which do completely ban it.
And Overleve.... As with any surgery there are many risks to a circumcision at the time and later... And unnecessarily cutting off a piece of your body is likely considered damage... How would you feel if I arbitrarily cut off half of your thumb?

I just have to say, I love how the most involved WA-debate we've ever had revolves around guys' cocks. It's so purely Wintrean it's not even funny.
