    EDIT: Nay

I am principally opposed to the open assembly, but voted Abstain because I wasn't involved in the constitutional convention. However, I changed my vote to a Nay because of the clear opposition to the act, and that I want the people to actually say why.

  • I'm going to change my vote and Abstain on this.  While I do support this, it's clear that this is something that people are still having an issue with, so I'll step back and let others decide.

I haven't been particularly involved in this regions politics, but I do know that when I was in Ainur and we switched to an open assembly, politics just dried up, perhaps it was the people in the region, perhaps it was the way it was presented, but the Open Assembly in Ainur became nothing more then an election for the empty position of speaker and failed to represent the people. This is why I vote nay.

  • Aside from my issue of the lack of readability, which I hope people will respond and address this in my other thread[/u], it looks like having an open assembly would not work for this region.

I was in The Kodiak Republic, and Liberalia, which had open legislatures, and unfortunately it did not help activity.  Both regions have been essentially dead now for years, unfortunately :(

  • I vote nay.

I am by no means expert in these matters, but I feel like the OA aims to foremostly solve the problem of inactivity which is mainly caused by the lack of need for new laws. Our current legislative system may be underutilized, but they deliver at times excellent elections = good overall regional activity. Thereby switching to a system that makes less fuss about how little there is to do only serves to deprive the region of one of its activity generating events.

Keeping in mind how insignificant the current system may be, we should consider indirect factors like the personal status that getting elected for however meaningless position still brings. This change is negligible unless someone can point out a social justice failure that our current system can't rectify. If our current system still holds greater value for individuals to thrive, it is obviously more valuable for the region.

Even if OA is eventually better for every aspect, I feel like we could milk it further, so I unavoidably choose to oppose it. We are not here to decide who dies out of hunger, we are making make-believe laws for a community that will remain protected regardless. There's no need to make passing this act easy, even the existence of the effort to pass this act serves as generator of activity.

TL;DR Before we pass this act we should make sure that it serves the region in best possible way. Some issues we try to solve may end up causing more harm.
