  • It wouldn't make much sense for us to discuss new ideas exclusively. There are a few lingering concerns still to be found. We probably have to solve those before moving on to other things the Guild as an whole could do.

This wasn't actually the guild's thought, but it is still something to consider.

Another thing we need to consider is how to provide training to newbies, if that is even something we should do.

Yet another is how to spread the word about the current RPs, what's been happening in them, how active they are etc.

There are probably a bunch of issues I'm forgetting. We should list them all here, and try to come up with solutions as a team. I should note that the entire guild, or anyone from the community really, is welcome to provide their own suggestions and make their voice heard. The Councillors and new GM will just keep everything organised, and of course, I will still be actively working with the guild as part of my duties as the new Thane of Culture.

    that could work.

also, having them read the guide "Uncle Figgy's Guide to Role-Playing" will also help immensely too, then we can tone it for our RPs.

  • Damn, you got it before I finished typing...

On the issue of teaching noobs, we can place an option to have a RP mentor in the Guild application then have a list of people who can mentor the noob on how we operate?
Or one of us could just be the designated "RP mentor". Whenever someone applies to become a citizen and says they may be interested in roleplaying (or maybe even if they say they aren't), then the RP mentor welcomes them, points them to a "RP Guild intro and roleplaying basics" post/thread(s) (that we'd have to create), and says that if they have any questions or are interested in joining the RP Guild, then the RP mentor will be there to help facilitate that.

I don't think it'd really be too much since we only get new citizens like once or twice a week. And if it does get to be too much work, then we could bring some new mentors that'd be trained by the RP mentor.

Yet another is how to spread the word about the current RPs, what's been happening in them, how active they are etc.

I know we have several periodicals in the region, so perhaps this could have a section added to one of them, or maybe it gets its own and then it gets posted on the forum as well as possibly as a bulletin on NationStates site or sent out as a message to the NationStates region members.

  • I don't think Gerrick was suggesting such duties exclusively be a Councillor's. But as a rule of thumb, the more experienced someone is with our way of RPing, the better, in my opinion. We could probably mention @Point Breeze here too, seeing as we'd ultimately need his consent to do anything with such ideas.

Also, I quite like everyone's suggestions so far.

  • Yeah, I don't mean that it'd have to be a Councillor, I just mean standardization and insuring a proper mentoring system should be put in place before we let a bunch of people do it.

Or maybe not use the word "mentor" since that might imply that it's related to the Mentoring Guild?... unless that's what we intend to do. Perhaps "trainer" or "guide" would be better if it's separate.

I think one way to solve this problem would be, as people have discussed, a PM sent on entering the regional forums and becoming a Citizen. In it, we provide a basic run-down of the RP's we have running at the moment, where to find our RP Guide topic (I'm assuming we have one somewhere) and how to request an RP-specific mentor for those who're new to the whole idea of RP.

Might seem a fair bit of work but if we have a template for a PM saved in a thread somewhere it shouldn't be too much effort to get this going :)

Yet another is how to spread the word about the current RPs, what's been happening in them, how active they are etc.
For this I think @Gerrick is along the right lines - we've got several regional publications and I know that in the past we've publicised our forum-based RPs through them. It wouldn't be too hard to write up a small 100-200 word section with the relevant links to go out monthly or however often it actually is keeping people up to date with what's running and where each RP has roughly got to IC.

The only real thing I can think of would be a continuation of one of the above points - when we're spreading the word, we've gotta get people interested. A lot of people put a lot of work into our community's RP segments, and it'd be a shame to see that go unrecognised due to lack of general activity. Finding ways to draw more people into the RP aspects of Wintreath would be a definite boon.
