  • I'm not that good with distances. :P

This is a distance key that I set up (in top left), although I'm not sure if it makes sense. What do you think?

    Spoiler

This would make your island around 50 miles in diameter.

If @Weissreich around, what key did you have in mind when you drew the map?

  • I'll go with the 50 mile diameter for now roughly and wait for Weiss' response.  :)

  • A little late, my apologies, but the thread(s) you'll want is this one and this one for more background stuff. Obviously this was stuff I wrote up for my own RP so modify it as you will to fit yours :)

Wintreath was, uh... several thousand miles by several thousand miles across in my mind. Two and a half thousand miles N-S and about four thousand miles E-W. It always looks larger N-S because of the Far North above the Huggtänder Mountains, which isn't part of Wintreath. You seriously don't want to go into the Far North either.

The scale I had in mind was quite a dramatic one, even if I say so myself haha. I never put the information into the thread now that I think about it -.-

That would make Bain - which is what I'm assuming you're talking about - roughly 50 miles across going E-W and 45 miles or so going N-S, assuming you were looking for the longest distances point to point as the crow flies. The actual area is hard to work out because of the coves, but you can make a rough guess at it. Hope that helps!

The map is looking incredible, by the way!

Thought I'd drop in before bed :) It's been a while once again, much to my chagrin... Work is as work does, however. I can't say I will be getting back into NS as I really don't have anywhere near as much time as I did, but I'll be popping in a bit more now that I've balanced things out!

    Hopefully. ;)

E: I should have a slightly updated version of the original map somewhere around here as well, might be useful if I can find it.

Interesting. I believe that they were actually referring to Frostlake Isle though.

Thanks, it's nice to be back! Ah, Frostlake Isle is roughly the same N-S (50 miles) and about 50 miles E-W as well. I didn't ever do it up properly to scale so assume these measurements are the furthest distances N-S/E-W on the island and it'll give you a rough area to work with.

Where Zemas has located himself is just about liveable; the northern foothills of the Huggtänder mountains are wild, cold and bitter, but that close to the coast it's likely there's enough unfrozen water for trade vessels to get through (depending on time period, of course - during the thousand year long winter nothing would've survived that far North).

If anyone has questions about the climates of specific regions or locations just tag me in a message and I'll get back to you :)

  • @Weissreich I have a feeling you're misidentifying the key... Zemas is at the Huggtänder mountains, not Robin.

Am I correct in saying that my location (Galdémere) is rather temperate?

Right you are, it's Zemas - my apologies!

On the map, anything below the southern tip of Frost Lake is considered temperate, with it growing warmer the further south you go. By the time you're at the Gulf of Andoril and the Narrows (the way into Wintreath on the south-west corner of the map) you're at pretty much deciduous forestry, swamps, grasslands etc etc. South-east is desert by the time you're hitting the coast, with the River Lyss being the only stretch of green in that Ride for quite some way. In between either of those is the Indurain causeway networks, so it's lush greenery anyways (Galdémere is a hub on that network) because everything is irrigated.

    Shit-tonnes of water, yo!

I can do climate bands if you want any more information than that :)

  • @Weissreich, on the topic of climate, do you think that you could make a climate chart for our future reference? Since you originally made the map, I think it would be best for you to do this.
