ACK....TO....MUCH....CUTE!

I wonder why there is such a strong relationship between cuteness and violence. I for one have felt the urge to strangle/beat/throw/dismember/chop up/consume my cats when they have acted unbearably cute -- and my wife, too, at times. Hmm, just one of those things I guess.

I imagine as Laurentus' article suggests it's to do with co-stimulation in regions of the brain looking at cute things stimulates the part of your brain that focuses on babies and family in the Limbic section. This likely makes you feel the need to protect and defend, which puts you on alert; this also explains the heightened response in male participants...

The strangest thing about this response is how small non-human animals can trigger it. From an evolutionary standpoint, we very much have a reason to care about our babies, but not baby seals or rabbits. I wonder why we respond that way regardless?

Because they're doing away with 2G cell networks in my area, Tracfone sent me a free replacement phone, which is the LG L34C...technically I suppose it's my first smartphone, although I've set the data to Wifi only to conserve my minutes.

Of course, the first thing I did was install grindr. xD I'm not sure if I'll actually ever do anything on it, but it's been fascinating just seeing who else near me is also on it. It was also a bit amusing that even without a picture I received so many hookup requests until I filled out the looking for part of my profile to not include 'Right Now'. I doubt it's something I even do anything with, but I have to admit that the prospect of chatting with and meeting other gay/bi guys around here is alluring.

One thing that irks me though is the arbitrary limits they've set to get people to pay for their premium account...only being able to see so many people, not being able to receive notifications from the app, only being able to set so many tribes. There's no engineering reason to do those things...it's just an arbitrary limit to make people pay money. It's as if I coded in that non-donators could only make five posts a day. That would be silly and incredibly stupid. Perhaps someday I'll make something that's better...there's no reason to have limits like that, it's just a money grab.

They have to make money somehow, don't they?

Especially since now they're paying to send YouTube advertisements toward me, even though I'm not gay and very probably not bi.

They have the same costs as other websites and apps, and most of those don't place these sorts of limits. It doesn't cost more to allow their users to do more things, they're just trying to frustrate users into paying, and that doesn't set well with me. They also show ads too, which I don't really have a problem with.

Two weeks ago, Northrop Grumman held a Software engineering open house.  Today, I have an interview with them.  We'll see how this goes

I still can't believe Bacon turned 17.  He's the oldest animal I've had so far.
