Personally, I think just saying "many women"  is enough.  You're don't say "many women, especially/except cis women," so why zero out trans women unless it's a discussion that specifically more trans women were asked about?

It's the same situation with sexuality and race.  Unless the topic specifically revolves around something that more gay/lesian people or black/asian/middle eastern/etc people were asked about, there's no reason to zero in on a specific group.

I'm not trans, but being a gay man I would rather be considered part of the norm if the topic doesn't revolve around my sexuality and therefore doesn't really need that viewpoint.

I'd imagine in most cases this is the same for trans people.  Unless the topic asks for a trans viewpoint, I'd imagine they're fine being in the camp of what gender they identify as, as opppsed to being singled out.

I don't care if someone's liberal, conservative, libertarian, hell, if they want to establish a theocratic kingdom, whatever. As long as they own it. Someone who masquerades as having views they don't legitimately have is dangerous.
But, hey, I mean, I've thought on it since I typed that, and for all I know, they could well legitimately think it's a moderate viewpoint. They'd be wrong ordinarily, but thanks to the magical political situation we find ourselves in, they're right, if only because now for some inconceivably awful reason this country's Overton window includes actual fucking Nazis in their guise as 'alt-right'.

And how is that, in and of itself, Transphobic? He compared a group of activists who where promoting a piece of legislation that, in his eyes, was a massive overreach to Mao. How is criticising someones ideas make them a phobe of that thing? If you criticised my ideas does that make you a bisexualphobe?

I honestly don't know how to tell you that comparing trans activists pushing for anti-discrimination legislation to Mao Tse-tung is offensive and transphobic.

You demonstrate the problem pretty well with your words.. he was comparing them to Mao because they were activists, not because they were trans. You can insult a transperson without being transphobic. Reducing a person to their identifying characteristics (black, trans, white, etc.) and then assuming any slight against the person is a a slight against some component of the identity, and thus an insult to anyone sharing the characteristic is faulty reasoning. Often dangerously so.

Incidentally, I think Jordan Peterson is probably off-base when it comes to C-16, but I also don't really have much of anything nice to say about the activists. Showing up to a place where people are trying to talk and making loud noises so nobody can hear them is just so incredibly childish. It's the teenage equivalent of holding your hands over your ears and screaming "I can't hear you".

If I'm not mistaken, China doesn't need to resort to such voter fraud tactics, they just ban all opposition parties (and set up a few others as part of some "united front").

No, what happens is your ballot comes with one box saying "Ja".

That's also not really how it works in China... they just don't bother having national elections, instead having them being elected the the provincial assemblies, which in turn are elected by the local assemblies. Much easier to control that way, and as a result multiple CPC members (and CPC-affiliated party members) do actually run. Of course, all of these candidates must be approved in what are ostensibly primary elections...

Though of course the first thing you'd want to do before moving to China is buying a good VPN explicitly designed to bypass the Great Firewall.

(That's actually quite odd, somebody must've been hosting some seditious forum or something... Even reddit isn't blocked in China, because nobody except foreign expats uses it, and they mostly all have VPNs anyway.)

Yeah, this I know. I've already gotten a VPN. It was literally the first tip I read in an expat guide.

Luckily, I'm already used to Wechat, since my Chinese colleagues use it exclusively to communicate with us at my current company.

Day 1: I've currently made it into Max Barry's region that he runs in attempts to get his card.

I was successful in retrieving his card.

In a somewhat unsurprising turn of events, he password-locked his region and banjected all of the card hunters.

Somehow, he chose to spare me, and so I currently remain in his region.
