uh, look, I'm all for free expression - I mean, this region is fairly...loose when it comes to sexual innuendo or even flat out "I love (genitals)" in some instances.  That's fine.  No problem.  It's funny, it's unique, it's part of what makes us Wintreath. 

However...besides the fact that we may indeed have younger members on this forum, and short of asking for members to provide their age and hoping for a truthful answer, there's no way to prohibit underage members from seeing adult content.  Also, if members want to share intimate posts, photos, etc., is this really the place?  Couldn't those in the community who wanted to partake simply communicate in another way off-site?

You should probably spend more time in our IRC if you think that's all that goes on in the region. We can be pretty wild in there at times, when the mood strikes enough of us. Just ask your lover Jone.

That's a slippery slope argument...the same could be said for people in the region that want to roleplay, or play Minecraft, have general chats, and so forth and so on, until we get to Vangiziland's old case that we should stop 'dicking around' and not do anything that's non-NS related. We haven't told any other group to go somewhere else, and I don't know why we would start now.

I looked at the numbers the other day before I posted this topic, and the average age of Citizens that have provided their birthdays is 20, so our community skews somewhat older than we would think. I also think we can put in requirements that would make it reasonably difficult for someone to gain access.

I'm honestly just throwing this out as an idea. I don't really have any desire to push it, but I wanted to clear some of the misconceptions brought up.

Finding adult content isn't exactly difficult, so protecting underage members from seeing such material is not really a valid reason for not having such an area here. I respect the sentiment, but it's not like the area would instantly turn Wintreath into some sort of pornhub (or who knows). If we want, we could maintain some dignity as a community alongside with the area, as long it's executed properly.

While it not may be my place to say, I don't like the idea of Wintreath presenting itself as a community that harbours discussion about adult content. I support the area if the point is to offer a suitable place of discussion for those who (clearly) need one, but it should be fairly discreet.

I feel strongly that if we get such an area, it should require fully moderated access (i.e. contacting someone for gaining access, instead of gaining access just by entering "correct" age). I would also hide the posting statistics of the area, to further lower its impact on our imago.

IRC has demonstrated that there is a demand, it's unlikely the area would end up empty and unused. So why not?

I've given it a lot of thought, and I believe the restrictions would be that interested (awesome) people would have to have been a Citizen for so many months, submitted an application in private, and then been approved by 80% of the current "adult area" membership. I think this raises a fairly high bar to entry that would alleviate any concerns.
