  • I must echo others' concerns about secrecy from candidates.
I am very much a proponent of transparency, which is why I believe discussion should take place on the forum more than IRC or Skype regarding Wintreath issues. It's an oversight thing.

    To all candidates-
What are some mistakes you have seen previous Underhusen Representatives make?
A followup, what would you have done differently?

  • It's honestly very small, sort of... I trust His Majesty the Monarch very well, but I don't particularly like how he chooses someone "at random" from a group He appointed. Now it just may be me, and I haven't ever seen this in system in practice, but in theoretic, I could see it being bad. So I am still thinking of the best solution to the problem, and will definitely work with the other Skrifas to see what they think, and of course what the Citizenry thinks.
With all due respect, I don't choose someone "at random" like these are door prizes. I choose people that I think are both capable and have the time to do the work that these positions require, and that's actually a lot harder than it sounds.

I have twice decided to experiment with different formats of choosing people when there was no such obvious choice to appoint. First we experimented with an election for open Jarl positions. Unfortunately everyone selected were removed within a few months for inactivity or, in Horse's case, passing along a Riksråd discussion to a foreign group. We then tried The Contenders contest about two months ago, which was successful in that Amalya stood out as choice for Jarl of Culture, but a failure in that no viable person for Jarl of Foreign Affairs stood out and I ended up taking the position myself.

The problem isn't the system, the problem is a lack of people standing out and proving themselves to be both qualified and to have the time to dedicated to it. If you want to change that, get proactive. Take it upon yourself to do things relevant to the Riksråd positions even if it isn't your job and be outstanding in it. Join the Civil Service and take part in things there. Help out new Citizens. Organize cultural activities. Join the military and be around at update ready to do things. Help write guides and information. Join in our World Assembly discussions and become an expert. And more.

People who go above and beyond what they have to do as Citizens are the ones that get rewarded with Riksråd positions. That's as it should be.

  • I don't see how that pertains to what I wish to propose if elected...

What I was getting at is something you actually said, you don't pick people like door prizes. The law states "at random" which means unplanned which means you pick a person arbitrarily. You said yourself you chose based on certain characteristics, good ones mind you, but nonetheless not random as the law states. I was saying that you are choosing people from a group you appointed and to me, that is bound to backfire one day. Maybe not with you, but the next monarch, or the next, or the next.

  • On the topic of the OFO and the Lazarus-OFO war and the treaty. I will support the OFO in the war only because Osiris was my first real region, so I owe them. But i can still be a loyal member of the Underhusen

  • Where do you, the candidates, stand on the ever contentious issue of a permanent judiciary?
I am against it, the reason being is that usually the Judiciary is an inactive branch of the Government and a non-permanent one is probably best in this case, although how the temporary courts are set-up can be debated.

I'm curious to know...what other regions are the candidates involved in? And what are the candidates' stances on government members who are also Citizens of other region?

Also, to those candidates that hold dual-Citizenship by the OFO, what is your stance on Royal Decree 002, our treaty with Lazarus, and the actions Wintreath has taken in support of Lazarus during the Osiris-Lazarus war?
I am slightly involved in the GRA. To be honest while I would prefer to have natives in the region, I wouldn't mind having those that are in other regions a shot at the Underhusen as well.

Due to this election sometimes being nothing more than a popularity contest, can all of the candidates outline, in detail, legislation they would bring forward if elected?
How much detail do you wish?

    To all candidates-
What are some mistakes you have seen previous Underhusen Representatives make?
A followup, what would you have done differently?
To be honest it's usually due to inactivity or failure to debate certain topics, then again it also depends on the Session of the Underhusen you are refering too. For this one I would have made sure everything was setup and at least tried to work with other Citizens to introduce bills.

What I was getting at is something you actually said, you don't pick people like door prizes. The law states "at random" which means unplanned which means you pick a person arbitrarily. First off Random, technically there is one dictionary that added in a second definition of Random, also that's only if you literally interpret the Fundamental Laws.

Secondly you do realize that Wintreath is a Constitutional Monarchy(or a Monarchy with traits of a Democracy/Republic) therefor technically speaking, even Amendments to the Fundamental Laws are to be approved by the Monarch and require the consent of the Winter Nomad(Both of which are Wintermoot) this can be found in Article VII of the Fundamental Laws.
    See you later space cowboy.

Not necessarily, there is strict and loose interpretations, strict are often very literal and use what it says itself. Loose is more of, 'in the spirit of' where it's not as literal.

  • Laws will almost always be read by someone who did not write it. You cannot write intent in law without putting that intent into the actual law. Law is written literally because it's meaning is to last longer than you and to be read with a single meaning by every person... It is important that there is only one law. And that law must be the strict and literal law... Or we may fall chance to horrible and destructive mix-ups which would make our law meaningless...

4/5 of my regions have been Constitutional Monarchies, two of which I was in the line of succession. I'm aware of how it is governed. And I don't see the relevance of why you brought up our political sidings.

I'm currently riding solo. I personally find it hard to balance time when I am a member of more than one region's government. So Wintreath is my only home for a while. But if other's can balance their time, awesome for them :)
