  • With all the time Reon and I waited for you to finish your turns, someone should be hailing it. lol.

For me, I started out in a great spot. My capital city was next to cotton, iron, and stone...the latter of which allowed me to build a stone works in Rome. It was also by a river, which allowed me to build a water mill. Between that, a few mines, the social policies I selected (Aristocracy and Republic in particular), and a great engineer or three, I was able to dominate wonder production for the entire game. It also helped that it turned out barbarians were blocked from my cities in three directions, meaning I didn't have to go through my typical 200 year struggle with them.

Later in the game, I started massively expanding to keep Reon from claiming most of our continent...something I think he caught onto because he started expanding as well later on. I also captured Geneva, because it was a lone city-state that was virtually surrounded by my lands...and it had a wine and extra iron tile. At the very end of the game, my goal was to beat Reon to the incense tile on the northwest corner of our continent, but we ended the game before that could be accomplished.

I'm not sure what my goal would have been afterwards...there was a small island between Gov and I with some city-states that could have been settled or conquered, but it seems we had almost settled everything by then. I think the small map was nice for three players...anything more and we would have probably not met up with each other at all.

  • Triremes can only move along coastline. You need at least a caravel to explore the ocean, which you can build after researching Astronomy.

  • I didn't even see the incense. I didn't actually have vision of Wintermoots empire til the very end... Wintermoot was imagining a lot of competition that didn't exist...

  • Game 4
Wintermoot vs Reon vs AI players(2)

This was the first game where we actually reached the term limit, and almost was the first game where there was a decisive victory! At one point Reon was three delegates away from winning a diplomatic victory, and when we reached the time limit I was two turns away from winning a spaceship victory. As you might imagine from that, most of the excitement came towards the end of the game...there was no military action between us, but there was a war of bribes taking place with city-states, with particular cities switching allegiance several times in the same turn.

Reon did capture some cities from the AI India, though...and successfully led a campaign to put a trade embargo on it. :P

However, at the end of the day I scored a narrow point victory against him, 1888 points vs 1575 for him. Ironically enough, this is the first game of Civ V I've finished all the way, so I gained a lot of insights that I think will help me in future games. :)

  • This is not my first finished game. This is however, the first finished game where I lost! I'm more than a bit peeved that I didn't get those last three diplomats.

  • Also with the game clocking in at 4 hours and 37 minutes with a turn cap of 330 (mysteriously) this is also one of the games with the fastest turn trade off times. Feel free to do the math yourself for how long the average turn took.
Also yeah, India kept trying to convert me so I destroyed their cities and left only their capital. Japan does my fuck around when it's got the order ideology... Using only units given to me by a particularly pleased city state I was able to take two cities. I should've wiped India entirely off the map, I realize now. I would've had more delegates.

How dare you do that to my India.
