  • Opening Speech

It is with great honour and pride, that I accept Alterra's nomination for a seat in the Underhusen.

The 3rd sitting of the Underhusen was plagued with inactivity. How do you cure such a stale institution? Fresh ideas, and fresh faces.

Ladies and gentlemen I am that fresh face, and I have those fresh ideas.

The Underhusen is an important institution, and plays a key role in our society.
As a community we want, nay, we deserve Skrifa that treat the Underhusen with the respect it needs.

    I am that Skrifa.

I vow to bring forth issues that actually matter to the citizens of Wintreath.
Things such as tabling a revised Freedom of Information act, and increasing the activity in the region.

Though I am fairly new to this region, I bring with me upwards of six years of NationStates experience.
So, if you want the same old status quo, don't waste your vote on me.
If you want your nation to prosper and be in good hands,
    I am your woman.

Thank you for your time, I will now take questions from the crowd.

  • Thanks guys :)

What I think is most important for Wintreath is productive citizen involvement.

A knowledgeable and active citizen is a happy citizen

Thank you for your question sir.

What are your thoughts on the Freedom of Information Act that everyone seems so intent on passing? (you can find a draft in the Underhusen archives board)
How do you plan on increasing activity and retaining our users that sign up?
Glad to see our newest members running :)

  • What an excellent question.

The Freedom of Information act is a necessary evil. How can we expect the support of our electorate, if they feel we are keeping secrets. The masses truly are our bosses, do they not deserve to know what's happening?

    I certainly think they do

While I disagree with some wording of the act, at its core, the act has good intentions.

After all, do not we all have good intentions at our core, here in Wintreath?

As far as increasing activity in the region goes, my plan is simple.

Yes, my plan is simple, and it is made even easier by you, the people.

You see, when a region is full of fantastic nations not unlike your own, good sir, all I have to do is draw attention to the many positives. I plan to do this in several ways.

I will personally see to it that a weekly regional newspaper be circulated, ensuring that new residents are aware of the fantastic opportunities, and people they have chosen to surround themselves with.

I will provide people with a friendly and approachable face, to which they can bring concerns they have that may limit how much they want to interact within the community.

Lastly, I vow to actively, and vocally, oppose any and all legislation that may limit activity in the region.

The winds of change are catching in the sails of Wintreath, so embark with me and embrace it.

Greetings! I just wanted to clarify one thing on this...of course, you can start a regional personal paper that does this, but the Storting has no purview to require such a paper officially. That authority lies with the Ministry of Information. The MoI used to put out such a paper, and I hope will do so again once staffing issues in the Riksråd are sorted out.

I appreciate your concern, Majesty. In no way was it my intention to mislead the populace and have them believe it is a Storting responsibility. Though not directly related to the campaign, I figured that announcing my intent would allow voters to see more of who I am as a person, since I am so new to this region.

    My apologies.

  • I understand...I'm just a little cautious on ensuring the Monarchy and the Storting keep to their own purview. If it means anything I do the same thing to myself constantly. :P

But yeah, I'll post something up in the Civil Service and we can do a paper like that again...it'd be awesome to work together on it. :)

    Platform Revisal

    Ladies and gentlemen

After careful consideration, I have decided to withdraw my support for a Freedom of Information act.

Now is not the time for division.

It is no secret that this issue is a divisive one. Our very own monarch has expressed much disdain over this act. in this period of rapid growth, we can not appear divided.

Now is the time for unity
Now is the time for Wintreath

  • Loving your speeches so far :P

But, no offense meant, some of the candidates seem to be confusing the Jarl of Information's and the Jarl of Integration's role.
It is my job to create more influx into the region, and I have been thinking up of ways to do so.
The Jarl of Information's role is to create regional publications and maintain people both within Wintreath and outside of Wintreath informed of our regional happenings.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but the Underhusen is there to create laws that are not covered by any of the ministries, like justice. I think the greatest challenge imposing itself on Wintreath right now is the lack of our legal code. What do you plan on doing about that?

  • Thank you for your concerns sir, I appreciate your ardor.

My good sir, you are absolutely correct. One of the biggest issues that plagues Wintreath today is a lack of legal code.

If elected, I vow to take every conceivable action to rectify this.

I have plans to table legislation to add to the legal code.

To help make Wintreath be all it can be!

  • 1. What do you feel is the most important legislative goal to be accomplished during the coming term?

    2. What do you feel should be the nature of the relationship between the executive and legislative branches of government? Do you believe the current relationship between the two is appropriately balanced or out of balance, and why?

    3. Name one thing that's wrong with one of our laws (including the Fundamental Laws) and how you would fix it.

    4. Do you see treaties as a means to develop a new relationship with a region, a means to make official an already solid relationship, some combination of these, or something else entirely? Please be as detailed as possible.

    5. Do you believe that members of the Riksråd should be part of the Underhusen? Why or why not?

What are your thoughts on the possibility of scrapping the Storting's fixed term? The details are in my campaign thread, if you're interested.

    Good luck!
