  • Syraj For Underhusen! Q:What experience do I have?
A: Not that much. I am new, but I have always believed that a new person brings a change, and I hope mine is a positive one(!)
    Q: What will I do?
A: First, I will keep an ear to the citizen's platform, and picking out any good proposals and putting them into the Underhusen. Other than that, I would push for the laws of Wintreath to be easily accessible, and try to translate the key (and complex) laws into plain English.
    Q: Anything else?
A: Well, alongside these ideas, I will help Wintreath continue this time of general happiness.
Anyway, thank you for reading this, and I hope you have been convinced to vote Syraj! If you want to question me on anything, please feel free to post below. Bye !

Could you elaborate on this? The laws are written in clear modern English. Though I do understand that they can be difficult/daunting to understand at first, any complexities are the result of needing cover many different situations while still being clear and unambiguous.

Do you mean simplifying the laws themselves through amendments, or writing explanations of the laws for our citizens to read and learn? If it's the latter, I'd definitely support it.

Thanks for the question, it is a separate document that explains the law in an accessible way.

  • On the 'plain English' document, is this something you are looking at having it done by law, or having it done by yourself?

I'm not sure what you mean, but I'll give it a go. I will introduce a law that allows anyone to translator a law into plain English, and then anyone can translate it to go with the law, but not in place of it. I hope this answers your question.

Except, anyone can already do that. Why is a law necessary?

  • Just to check there isn't mutual misunderstanding, here.

Syraj, I think Chanku was asking if you planned to have the plain-English documents added into the laws, or if you wanted to just translate them as a seperate document for people to read as a supplement.

Think sport. There's the big heavy rulebook with all the fiddly details, then a "Sport for Dummies" book that sums up the important points. Chanku's asking if you want the "Sport for Dummies" to be included in the rulebook. Strictly speaking, anyone can make a "Sports for Dummies" book already, but I don't think anyone's made it for Wintreath law.
Edit: To clarify, I think Chanku was asking if you planned to make it part of Wintreath law, and you interpretated it as him asking you to make it part of law. Hence why I'm thinking there's mutual misunderstanding.

Chanku, am I interpreting your question correctly?

To an extent. Although I will note my question also goes to asking if the plain english document will be required to exist by an act of legislation, and if legislation would require a version of that be written in order for the law to pass or be enacted.

  • I am currently confused on what is going on, but I'll have a shot. I want to pass it into legislation for these reasons:
    1) It is handy to have it with the actual legislation (using the sports book metaphor, it is easier to have it at the back of the book than on a different book.)
    2) By making it legislation, it gets peer reviewed by people who know the law. It stops careless errors seeping into the translations and people getting confused.
Just to clarify, the translations will have no power in themselves, but should strive to be as accurate as possible. I hope this answers your question, and post again if this does not.

I don't necessarily see a point in making it legislation? What would happen if someone didn't write it?

Do you mean that you would want the explanation located with the relevant law in the Laws page? If that's the case, that would be fall under Administration, and be something you'd need to ask Wintermoot to do, not legislate (see Article VI of the Fundamental Laws, particularly Section 5).
    2) By making it legislation, it gets peer reviewed by people who know the law. It stops careless errors seeping into the translations and people getting confused.
So you'd want the legislation to set up a peer review process? What would you want this process to look like?
