I just want to bring something up. Do we have a procedure in place for what happens if there is a tie deciding the Speaker?

I assume we'd have to either hope for a vote change, or @Wintermoot would have to help break the tie.

Wait, so if no one wanted tho change votes is it officially written into law that Wintermoot gets the tie breaker? If not, it should be added.

Actually no.  There's a clause for the eventuality of a tie or no candidate chosen for Speaker Pro Tempore, but there's no such clause for the Speaker themselves.

Then lets put it in. Safer and closes a potential loophole. Who knows, we might just avert a future Constitutional Crisis :]

This would merely need to be a procedural amendment, not a constitutional amendment, though, so it'd probably be best served with its own thread.

No there isn't. Is that what you're suggesting? There are other ways to resolve the issue as well, including:

1. Giving the tiebreaking powers to the Overhusen, which would be in line with ties in Underhusen bills:

(a) In the event that a vote is tied, the bill shall be directed to the Overhusen to determine the outcome.

2. Just letting the voting period continue until there is no longer a tie, which may actually be the correct interpretation of existing law (especially since the two conditions for ending the voting period don't specify whether the first to occur must cause the voting to end):

Following the nomination period, each Skrifa shall have one (1) vote for Speaker of the Underhusen in a poll lasting forty-eight (48) additional hours or until all elected Skrifa have voted and no tie for first place has occurred.

But what happens if there remains a tie? What happens (extremely unlikely, I know, just want to close any holes) if no matter how long the process there is no winner?

Sounds good to me.

(Given that we serve two-month terms we may want to shorten that, though really that line's going to be fairly arbitrary no matter what, and if the Underhusen can't reach a compromise by then, it's going to be a fairly dysfunctional one anyway.)
