So, with Zemas's Wintreath Space Expeditions being in the state it's in, let's try to come up with ways in which problems like these can be avoided.

One thing we could consider is having the gamemasters name three people, in order of preference, to take the reins from them should they become inactive or otherwise unable to continue, but to do so before an RP can even begin.

If, for whatever reason, that is not an option, then we could let the guild decide what's best, by first giving the Guildmaster the power to decide what to do with the RP, and if he can't make the decision on his own, just sending it down the chain, and if it reaches the lowest ranks, going up for a vote. If a vote resolves nothing (by tying, for instance), then it becomes a problem for the Ministry of Culture to resolve.

Why not just do a vote straight away, you may ask. Answer: efficiency. Whoever happens to be Guildmaster will probably be pretty damn knowledgeable about RPs, and be so involved with each RP that he/she will probably know what's best and keep things moving at a brisk pace.

In Ainur, when GMs would disappear/depart yet the RPs were still going on, the active players would democratically elect one of their own to assume the role of GM.

Or you can just let the RP die.

RPs dying are sad, but sometimes unavoidable, I know.

If that's how you feel about it, then a new GM should be elected from those who are willing to do it.

On future RP's succession:

Perhaps we can combine both Laurentus' and Ashton's ideas.

Gamemasters could choose at least 1 active "heir" (though perhaps not right off the bat to see who's the most dedicated to the RP), or the Guildmaster can choose someone if that doesn't work out, or a vote among the active players of the RP if the Guildmaster defers to their judgment or isn't active at the time.

That's pretty much what happened in this situation. Zemas hadn't officially chosen someone to take over should he fall inactive, so the Guildmaster (Aragonn) decided to co-host with Robin, who we kinda unoffically voted for.

EDIT: And we also gotta come up with different names for Gamemaster and Guildmaster as they're both "GM" which I think causes a little confusion -- at least for me.

I thought it was the former as each RP has different lore, so the Lore Master would be the "master" of that RP's lore.

Besides, I believe our Guildmaster is technically called "the Patriarch" as per the Guild Halls, though we haven't really been calling him that.
