It's been awhile in coming, but we finally have a mentions system!

The way that it works is that you tag someone with the @ symbol...for example, @Wintermoot. When you make the post, they will receive a PM (and an email if they've opted to get emails when they're PMed) and the mention will be listed on the news feed page (wintreath.com if you're logged in). I hope this will make it easier to notify people that their attention is needed on the forums, especially for RPGs and forum games.

Ah! This will make games like Clue and Spyfall so much easier now! ;D

It works on Apple Tapatalk, for reference... I now get an email, a phone notification, and a forum notification anytime someone tags me.

Mentions have been reordered in the newsfeed to go begin with the most recent mention. You can also remove mentions from the list by clicking the button on the right side of each mention.

I've replaced the mod that does Youtube embedding...the downside is that you have to use tags now  and  both work. The good news is that https links now work in the embedding.

Notices Sidebar

The previous mentions sidebar in the newsfeed is now called notices, and displays your unread PMs in addition to your mentions. You will notice that each item is listed as being a PM or a mention, and that PMs do not have a dismiss link like mentions do...they will disappear from the list when you read the PM.

Will we still have the red notification bar for new PM's too?

No...that's part of the process towards moving notifications to the news feed and simplifying the rest of the design. However, the number of unread messages still shows up in your personal menu (the inbox link), and there will probably be some sort of image notification on the top bar in the future.

PMs in News Feed Sidebar, Part II

I didn't like that PM notices disappeared when you read them...you may want to keep the notice to remind you to reply later on, for example, so I made it like mentions to where PM notices must be dismissed to disappear. This seems like a small change, but it required significant changes to the backend to make it work. As an aside, automated PMs, such as the ones sent by the notifications system, should not appear as notices.

Also, restored the red message stating when you had unread PMs.

And I completely redid the system yet again, lol. Absolutely no end-user changes now, but another complete overhaul that makes backend handling much simpler.

I have a perpetual red bar telling me about a PM, but no notices or PM's displaying on the sidebar.

Should be fixed
