I mean Tekkit isn't that mod heavy, in fact it's kinda light in some ways(although it is a major update behind IIRC), however the thing is, is that I like Tekkit because it allows for cooler structures to be built for ramps and triangles to be in the world, thus allowing smoother edges and cooler buildings. RIM allows you to build elevators and doors that shut, it allows you to make a mining maching, or a moving platform. The only mods that would be a problem in Tekkit seem to be Dimensional Doors and Mystcraft. I suggest Disabling DD (or atleast limiting it), and Restricting Mystcraft age creation to mods only(unless we are going the Civcraft route then limit it to 3 or 2 ages per person)

No server can logically handle many mystcraft ages... Hell,  normal clients can often not at all deal with mystcraft ages...
 Tekkit is light in what ways exactly? Anyhoo... It seems to me that everyone is leaning pretty heavily towards vanilla... You may be fighting a losing battle.

Why not a secondary server which is very small? And by light I mean it doesn't really have that many server intesive mods, once you disable Mystcraft and Dimensional Doors. The only possible problems are with chunck loaders(which can be limited/disabled), and power mess-ups(and nuclear stuff....) trust me on this, I've played Tekkit on my current computer with 512 MB of RAM and a Pentium M CPU

Right then, After reading this thread, I've decided to keep it Vanilla for now.

We haven't done much with the first server yet...it's a little early to start talking about a secondary server.

If I were able to help administrate the server(server side and on the game...once I get my new comp working) I could change that. I have ran my own server before, and everyone who played on it loved it. Did I mention it was modded and had little to no lag? Hell we had regulars playing on the server.

Chanku. If you want to start a server go ahead. But I don't think many people from Wintreath will join. It is clear and has been seen that most people enjoy vanilla and that they would like to keep mods out of the Wintreath Minecraft Server.


I understand the like and appeal of mods. I played Minecraft with mods and won't touch a lot of games, once I've beaten them, without mods, but it is clear that in this case vanilla will prevail.

Who's to say wintreath can't have multipul servers besides who here has actually run a public minecraft server other than me? I know what it takes to make a good server and having multipul versions is great. Much like how NS has other regions, Minecraft has other servers. So wintreath having a modded and vanilla server might be a good idea.

The issue here is one of demand and not supply. It's easily doable to have more than one server, and easily doable to have a modded one and a vanilla one.

The problem? There isn't enough demand. I think you're the only one arguing in favour of a modded server, despite a continuous and oft repeated position from everyone else - it seems, at least - to the contrary.

Allow me to point you to Bukkit. I mentioned it in my previous post but having read the new posts I'll expand slightly upon my explanation of why it's good for Wintreath.

Firstly, the social side of things. It allows better chat functions, factions, spawn protection and mob/PvP management in an efficient and easy-to-use set-up. Drag and drop, people, drag and drop. In-game? The commands are simple and quick to memorise.

Secondly, changing game mechanics. There are so many plugins to do this I can't actually begin to list the most useful ones. Falsebook, Essentials, MagicSpells... You can have a castle with working drawbridges and portcullises with a library that allows you to learn magic spells that you can then cast with your wand.

What's not to like? It's an easy compromise between mods (aka bad idea) and vanilla (aka good but plain). I saw the development of Bukkit from just before hMod was shut down all the way to the present, and it's never failed to be run well, updated carefully and supported fully.

It also makes administration far easier from in-game, if you download Essentials.

I do like Bukkit, however it lacks on the mod end. Specifically it doesn't add things that I like about mods, such as more magic, or more technology. Hell some might be willing to play on the server themselves.

I don't personally believe it would be wise to start a second server. The whole point of having a regional server is for the community to come on and be able to do something fun together...to have another server would be splitting the community up at a point where we haven't really got started on the first server yet. That being said, Denth is the Organizer of the event/server, and he has the right to determine the type of server that he wants, and Chanku has the right to become Organizer of a second server if he wants. I just don't believe it would be beneficial to the region, the community, or either Minecraft server to have dual-servers at this point.

Sorry moot, but some people just want modded minecraft. besides I wouldn't mind if the server only had me online, it would give me time to build my empire
