Recently the Morning Brew discussed how the game is still popular 23 years after it was released, crediting the way it was coded for few bugs and the way that it obeyed the laws of physics.

So I'm curious...did you ever play RollerCoaster Tycoon? Have you played it recently? Got any fun memories of the game?

My brothers and I played it a lot as kids, and I got back into it a bit around college. As a kid I loved making themed amusement parks from scratch with the different building and walkway skins, wide variety of park decorations, and ability to customize the colors on everything. But I liked the challenge of the already established parks when I was older. I always used pre-built coasters, though, as the things I created inevitably ended up either boring, horribly vomit-inducing, or just death traps. Could never get the right balance for them to be fun for most people. And you know it was fun to terrorize the guests at times by throwing them in water or blocking off the exits and restrooms so they're just stuck in the park constantly vomiting. Good times.  

I was always a fan of the first 3 games, 3 especially since despite the dated look, seeing it on a more 3D scale was pretty nice.

Planet Coaster is a wonderful successor to the series made by the original folks.  If you're ever wanting to play a similar but better game, definitely check out Planet Coaster...it's really all of the best of RCT3 with improvements.

I never played RollerCoaster Tycoon, but when I was a kid I did play an earlier theme park simulator called Theme Park, along with its more memorable successor Theme Hospital. I don't remember much about it, just that it was kinda zany and kinda on the high side of average.

Maybe I'll check out some of those games...building a theme park sounds kinda fun.

If I still had a disk drive in my laptop I almost certainly would

GoG has the first 2 complete games for sale, and Steam has all 3 of the complete games plus the less than stellar Roller Coaster Tycoon World.  So a disk drive isnt needed.
