Back in 2017 a lot of us took the 8values quiz, and later I put together some stats for community averages for an Orendi article about it. I thought it'd be fun to do it again and see if the community has drifted in any direction since then...five years is a long time, and we've had people coming and going since then. So take the quiz, post your results here, and we'll do it again!

Wintreath Does Yet Another Political Quiz

Over the course of the past month, members of the forum community have been taking the 8 values political quiz, which attempts to place you among four axis based on your responses to various political issues it asks about. Overall, the quiz determined that the forum community as a whole tends to be socialist, globalist, libertarian, and progressive. Even the most "conservative" member, Justinian Ezkantion, was described by the quiz as a centrist, with most members being categorized into libertarian socialism or social libertarianism. Overall, it was an interesting look into where individual members and the region as a whole stands on various issues!

Below is a description of each axis and the two values that comprise it as stated on the website, along with some information on where the region stands on each axis.

Economic Axis: Equality vs Markets
Those with higher Equality scores believe the economy should distribute value evenly among the populace. They tend to support progressive tax codes, social programs, and at high values, socialism. Those with higher Market scores believe the economy should be focused on rapid growth. They tend to support lower taxes, privatization, deregulation, and at high values, laissez-faire capitalism.

Most Socialist: Cinciri (93.3 Equality/6.7 Market)
Most Capitalist: Justinian Ezkantion (49.4 Equality/50.6 Market)
Regional Average 69.9 Equality/30.4 Market

Diplomatic Axis: Nation vs World
Those with higher Nation scores are patriotic and nationalist. They often believe in aggressive foreign policy, valuing the military, strength, sovereignty, and at high values, territorial expansion. Those with higher Globe scores are cosmopolitan and globalist. They often believe in a peaceful foreign policy, emphasizing diplomacy, cooperation, integration, and at high values, a world government.

State Axis: Liberty vs Authority
Those with higher Liberty scores believe in strong civil liberties. They tend to support democracy and oppose state intervention in personal lives. Note that this refers to civil liberties, not economic liberties. Those with higher Authority scores believe in strong state power. They tend to support state intervention in personal lives, government surveillance, and at high values, censorship or autocracy.

Society Axis: Tradition vs Progress
Those with higher Tradition scores believe in traditional values and strict adherence to a moral code. Though not always, they are usually religious, and support the status quo or the status quo ante. Those with higher Progress scores believe in social change and rationality. Though not always, they are usually secular or atheist, and support environmental action and scientific or technological research.

It's kinda interesting to see how the top and bottom values have shifted more than the middle two.  On the one hand, I've only shifted by not even a full percent for the Diplomatic/Civil Axis since the 2019 result, having hit .1% more towards Internationalist on the former (versus the 11% jump from 2017 and 2019), and .1% away from Liberal on the latter (versus the .5% jump towards from 2017 and 2019).

On the other hand, it's interesting to see how my Economical Axis shifted a whole 9.7% towards Equality (versus the 6.1% jump from 2017 and 2019), and how my Societal Axis shifted an entire 13.1% towards Very Progressive (versus the 2.1% backstep towards Tradition jump from 2017 and 2019)

So largely I haven't changed much, although I seem to be continually shifting to more of the overall left spectrum as I get older.

2024 Edit: Love that everything shifted even more, yet the Progress percentage is the exact same as it was 2 years ago.

Good lord I'm a centrist according to the quiz now.  I think largely the reduction in my "progress v tradition" opinion solely with respect to thinking about covid and the lab leak stuff wrt Wuhan Institute of Virology.  Also I'm not sure if my globalism score changed much, but definitely the ineptitude of the WHO and countries freaking out and not listening to each other really played a role in lower faith in institutions and stuff.  Economics wise I never fit quite right, because Georgism.  Overall, fun though!

Looks like I've radicalized in all the scales.

I do think that this doesn't capture how I've mellowed out in some particular areas like thoughts on identity and scientific progress since 2018, but that's probably because of the way this quiz frames things.

You can still use bbcode! Third button from the right, I also have a userscript somewhere to toggle it by default.

Toggle view?  Ooh where's the userscript to toggle by default?  I would enjoy that immensely.  Gone is my wonderful time creating spoilers within spoilers within spoilers and all the cool things with bbcode.  Very sad :'(

Technically you can still put bbcode in the default view and it'll work just fine, but the source view (what you get when you hit toggle view) has smaller font and doesn't automatically parse images and emotes, so it's a bit cleaner if you do it there.

I've put together all the results from 2017, 2019, and what I have so far here. We had 17 people do the quiz in 2017, 8 in 2019, and 5 so far now. I'd like to get at least 15 people before I really start putting together statistics, so I'm going to ping a few people who are still around or are Citizens and took it before.

For the most part, you were in about the same area as you were in 2017, but you took a decent shift away from Markets and toward Equality. According to the site, that means you are probably more in support of progressive tax codes, social programs, and perhaps even socialism.

I'm not surprised. There were a few questions that I squinted at for being loaded that I expected to skew my results, particularly the ones about workers owning the means of production and pharmaceutical companies, because the quiz still assumes ownership of property and operates on the paradigm of a few own vs. the state owns vs. communal ownership of the resources and/or means of production.

The option where no one has ownership doesn't seem to be included.

My 2021 results

We have 12 results so far, and the results are proving to be interesting! I'm hoping to get a few more results before I make any conclusions, though.
