I think in the last few years I've become interested in visiting Alaska...it just looks so rustic and peaceful, and I can imagine staying in a tiny house or cabin out there. Also I read an article a few years back on how the state has adopted a more independent streak politically, which I liked too. I think if there's a place in America that's most likely to survive the meltdown of our civil society, it's probably Alaska.
If we're being more far-fetched I'd say Antarctica. A few months back Elbbsas mentioned looking at Google Street View pictures of an Antarctica base, so I checked it out and it looked so cool! They had a cafeteria with windows looking out over the snowy landscape, a cozy library, offices and places to sleep and live...I think it'd be cool staying a few months there and just getting away from it all.
Alaska is really cool, visited this summer! Got to do some really nice hiking and see really beautiful scenery and cool wildlife.
As for myself, I'd also like to visit Antarctica. Would also love to visit the Andes, the Inka are really cool and also they have so many different kinds of potatoe.
I will add my own statement that Alaska is cool from when I cruised there with my parents in the summer 8 years ago (though they were having a heat wave:))). Antarctica seems like an interesting place to visit although I doubt I could handle the cold.
There are a few mountain ranges that seem interesting to visit (but then again that cold...). Especially the Andes and Himalayas to potentially see some Bhutan, Nepal, Tibet, India, China, Pakistan, Peru, Ecuador, Chile, and other regions/countries. Caral, Inca, Chachapoyas, Moche, and Mapuche seem like they would have interesting sights in the Andes (besides Machu Pichu). Other reasons to visit would be the potential to see rare (or not rare but not seen around here) life in the wild such as snow leopards, markhor, spectacled bears, tapirs, guanacos, vicunas, and other small cats such as Geoffrey's cat or Margays.
