I originally put this together as a reply to Excalibur to support my belief that most of our impactful members came from other regions rather than came originally to Wintreath. However, going through the list of top 50 forum posters, I found that wasn't necessarily true, so I decided to split it into its own topic. At this time, being in the top 50 posters means that someone has made over 457 posts on the forums.

24 out of 50 people on the list originally came to Wintreath. The vast majority of them came came in 2014 and 2015, but begins tapering off after this to the point that nobody on the list originally came to Wintreath after 2017.

7 out of 50 people on the list were founding members of Wintreath, meaning they came with me from Spiritus when the region was founded in 2013.

19 out of 50 people on the list joined from other regions. A significant subset of this group is people joining us from New Hyperion (5) and Ainur (4), regions that we have had especially close relations with. I didn't check for dates on these because I was examining the other group more closely, but just from looking at the list it appears that most people joined in that same 2014-2015 period. That implies that people joining from other regions don't necessarily have an advantage in Wintreath like I believed, since it appears to have risen and fallen along with the other group.

It seems the focus of this investigation shouldn't be on where they came from, but when. Possible theories are that the decline in top forum members is related to the end of Point Breeze's tenure as Jarl of Integration, or that with the rise of Discord that forum activity data isn't a good indicator of a member's community presence after 2017.

This is quite interesting.

I have pulled together the Discord stats. Unfortunately Discord does not have any sort of server top list, so this is based on meee6's levels command, which wouldn't include messaged posted in private channels. It also does not include anybody who was banned from the entirety of Wintreath.

3 out of 50 people are founding members of the region.

20 out of 50 people originally came from other regions, with 3 from New Hyperion and 3 from Ainur.

27 out of 50 people on this list originally came to Wintreath, and this is where the data is most interesting. 13 of these people came to us after 2017, which explains where prominent newer members of the community went to. However, of those 13 only 3 are still on the server, compared to almost everyone on the list who joined in 2017 or earlier. This suggests that newer generations of Wintreans based on Discord have not been integrated into the greater Wintrean community or into contributing roles. Between this and the events of the Schism and the drama in June, it appears that 2 entire generations of original Wintreans have been nearly wiped out, along with numerous others who are either not on the toplist or who originally came from other regions.

I find it pretty funny that I’m 6th here on the forums, but not even in the top 50 on discord. I suppose that’s because I only joined a few months ago.

Is it possible to show in the formatting which members are current/former citizens/server members? I think it would be interesting and worthwhile to visualize how retention has been for our top contributors in both the forums and Discord.

Also, am surprised that I make the list on Discord. Don't think I'm that active there, especially on public channels.

In the forum stats, current Citizens are marked in bolded green and former Citizens are marked in red. Additionally, crossed-out names indicate that they have not made a forum post in the last month. 19 of the top 50 posters are now former Citizens, and perhaps unsurprisingly none of them have posted in the last month. Of the remaining 31 people who are current Citizens, 13 of them have not made a post in the last month. In some cases this is because they're active on Discord, but in others it seems people are just maintaining their Citizenship status and nothing more.

On the Discord end, 21 out of 50 people in the top 50 are former Citizens, although 1 still posts on the Discord in that capacity. Of the remaining 39 people who are still Citizens, 1 has left the server entirely (though this is due to a Discord ban) and 5 have not made a Discord post in the last month. In this case, bolded green shows current Citizens, red indicates former Citizens, crossed-out names are those who have left the server, and names in italics are people who are still in the server but haven't posted in the last month.

Hahaha yeah I too am much more of a discord lurker than contributor.  I think that's largely because I'm not usually one who has huge chunks of uninterrupted time to talk on discord, whereas conversations on the forums can be a heck of a lot more thorough and take place over a longer period of time.  Also it's fun to use the forums—often to me discord isn't quite the same level of fun because I can't look back at past conversations or really easily see what other people are talking about, so it would make sense (to me) that a lot of community integration has tapered with a movement of a lot of stuff to discord, because there isn't that same level of knowing what other people are talking about, etc.  If that makes sense?

I still assert that I should be classified as originally Wintrean. My first RMB post in Wintreath was on the same day as my first RMB post in Ainur.

Beyond my own memory, the data is based on people's initial Citizenship applications, because besides being the best way of tracking that, it's the initial point that someone shows commitment to the region beyond just having a nation with it. Traditionally, that's when we also start integration efforts (when we've had them).

You may have joined both regions at the same time, but by the time you applied for Citizenship you had gotten involved in Ainur and learned from your experiences there. You were no longer a new player that needed complete integration.

I know exactly what you mean. I don't really have those chunks of time either, aside from nights on weekends usually, when I want to sit down and immerse myself in whatever video game I'm interested in at the time (Minecraft these days). Other than that I could always just have it open constantly next to whatever I'm doing at the time, but I know for sure whenever I hear/see new messages (which would be a lot, considering I'm in 4 different servers), I'll always want to check it, and I'll never finish what I'm actually supposed to be doing. Live chat definitely has it's upsides, but I'll always be a forum guy.
