Just coming back to say, I've gotten so used to the avatars now, I don't even pay attention to them anymore. Lol

Yeah, it's really interesting how changes seem very jarring at first but then you get used to those things.

I feel like it makes giving feedback quite tricky on two different fronts - it is difficult to tell whether initial negative feedback is worthwhile or just aversion to change, but it is also difficult to tell when a change grows on you / you become indifferent to a change whether that is because the change is actually better or if it's just one that you learned to deal with.

The subforums listed on the front page show as very strangely large when on mobile with the Force Desktop Version option on.

Still having this issue, browsing the front page (which is how I read the forums) on mobile on desktop mode is still annoying because of how massive the subforums now appear. If I had to guess, I think it might be because you have hardcoded a large font size on mobile for the subforums on the new theme, without checking for the Force Desktop option. Old theme does not have this issue, as always.

Since Summersend post contest is over, I've reenabled the dev theme (see, forum post count is important ), so I'm finally seeing the new shoutbox.

Overall new shoutbox is quite neat. (I do worry that it's slightly less accessible since you now need to know bbcode and manually format it, but that's probably not a big issue.) I think my more important feedback is that the left margin is incredibly tiny and somewhat unpleasant. It might not need to be as big as the previous shoutbox, but even the other panels like the Guidepost and the MC Status have slightly larger margins and feel a lot less claustrophobic.

Could you screenshot this? Subforum text size in forced desktop mode appeared normal to me, so I wasn't able to replicate your issue. I'm using Chrome on mobile, is this the browser you're using?

Some updates:

Shoutbox: The original shoutbox has been removed from the development skin. I believe I've fixed the issue where people were getting green name colors, and I have added a space to the left-side of the shoutbox as @taulover suggested.

Minecraft Panel: I did some more tweaking with the time allotted for the Minecraft API to load in the data. I also fixed the issue where players names weren't showing up on the list.

Collapsing Category: Given that there will be more categories and main forums in the future, I've made some minor improvements to the ability to collapse a category (the - button on the top right of each category).

-Enabled the ability to collapse all categories
-Replaced the collapse/expand button images with Font Awesome icons
-Removed the category bottom when a category is collapsed (that just looks weird without any forums)
-Collapsed categories will appear as slightly opaque
+The category name higher than it should be when you first collapse a category. If you refresh the page, it will appear as it should.

We are getting very close to moving these changes over to the main skin. At this point I plan to do so as soon as I have a chance to fix the mobile/force desktop mode issue that @taulover has identified.

Random thought: You used to be able to 'send' your message in the old shoutbox by pressing enter. That doesn't seem to be the case with the new one. Not really a big deal, but I'm just wondering why that is.

Hmm looks like the issue is potentially specific to mobile Safari.

On mobile Chrome the large lettering shows up briefly and then it becomes small again.

That definitely shouldn't be acting like that, and the font-size of subforums in relation to the rest of the layout should be same on desktop or mobile.

I did find that that the font size was specified twice, one at 8pt and one at 9pt. I removed one and also removed some other formatting specifications that are no longer needed. Did any of that help?

Hmm, now on Safari it is flashing small before becoming big, kinda like the reverse of what I'm seeing on Chrome.

I've looked up the issue, and discovered that apparently Mobile Safari will automatically scale text if it thinks the text will be too small. I've tried disabling that for the website...did that change anything?

Hmm this seems to have had the side effect of making all the text on the entire website smaller elsewhere also. This includes in other browsers such as mobile Chrome (for me at least, on iOS), such that the rest of the website is much smaller and less readable on mobile than it was before, when the browser was automatically resizing the text.

With the general release of the updated forum front page imminent, I have decided that the Wintreath Guidepost module will not be released with it.

I just don’t feel that it’s ready for prime time yet on a technical or content level. Content-wise, virtually all the information on the Discord and Minecraft pages is out of date, while it’s uncertain whether we will continue with a NSFW server. Additionally, some of the content that would have gone into guidepost pages may be better placed in forum sidebars once that feature comes out.

On a technical level, there’s no system for creating or updating pages other than me updating the code on the backend. It may be that a better system would be having the page content from a post that specified people can update, much like the government sidebar module does.

Is the idea that you want other people to be updating and adding to the Guidepost? Because if it's still you making (or even just approving) those changes I don't really see an issue with static webpages serving the information.

@taulover: It wasn't originally the idea, but the more I worked with it the more I realized that other people really needed to be able to edit the content. The information on some of the pages got outdated quickly, and I don't want this to be something else that I have to be on top of and manage on my own. If anything I'd like to decrease the number of things that's all on me.

Will the new Citizen's Council be added to the Wintreath Government sidebar?
