Hello friends, players, dungeonmasters, and roleplayers, I am Excalibur, your incumbent Thane of Roleplay, and am running for reelection! I hope my +3 to Charisma combined with my proficiency in Charisma (Persuasion) will help convince you to vote for me! I'll start with the standard application, and then move into some things that I know Pengu covered in his campaign, as well as some things that I want to cover on my own, which I feel are unique to me.
1) Why are you running for this position?I am running for this position because RPing is a passion of mine that I want to share with Wintreath. Although I haven't been able to do as much as I'd like to these past terms, I feel that this summer, with absolutely nothing going on, I can help make leaps and bounds within the Wintrean RP community. I want to expand on the RP Academy Ruguo and I started this term, as well as revamp the Guild system to better fit the current roleplay environment. I want to also start new forum RPs, preferably one for ARTS students just exiting the class, as well as others that allow more experience RPers to develop intricate and complex characters to play alongside like-minded people. The roleplaying community has so much potential now, and I want to spend the summer tapping into that potential.
What do you aim to accomplish as thane? As part of this, you must include at least one thing that you promise to do beyond the minimum listed duties of the position during your term. It should be measurable, so that it's black and white whether you fulfilled this mandate at the end of the term if you are elected.I kind of answered this in 1), but I'll put more here:
1. Expand the Academy for Roleplaying Things and Stuff (ARTS) to Flurry and even Blizzard levels. Ruguo and I are also working with prospective mentors 1 on 1 to vet them and see if they are up for mentoring. If I am elected this term, I feel that we can add at least three more mentors to the program, which will allow us to expand ARTS even more.
2. Create additional forum RPs, preferably a beginner RP, an intermediate RP, and an advanced RP, as well as reopening the Frostbite Tavern for additional RP opportunities. Although a beginner RP and an intermediate RP are a minimum I feel
3. Expand the Wintrean RP Server to include more games and GMs/DMs. It has a lot of potential right now, but I feel I can help increase participation there.
4. Add additional roles overseen by the Thane of Roleplay to help spread the work and promote various parts of the community due to how spread out the RP community is now becoming. Tentatively I am thinking of the title of Grandmaster (in line with the theme of the RP Guild), and the three positions I am thinking of now are Grandmaster of the Roleplayer's Gathering, Grandmaster of the Server, and Grandmaster of the Academy. All these positions would be appointed by the Thane and would remain in that position until the next election.
5. Create a RMB roleplay. I know we already have an unofficial thing going, but I would like to create a better, more established RP that can be easily followed by all those involved and is fun for everyone. With all the things I’ve promised, this might still be in the works by the end of my term, but I will do my best to get started on it.
This sounds extremely ambitious, I understand, but with time being my most plentiful resource this summer, I feel I can get a lot done.
2a) If you are an incumbent running for re-election, did you fulfill your mandate from the September election? If not, why didn't you?My mandate last term was to finish the RP Academy plans that Ruguo and I were working on, and start a Discord RP. I successfully completed both of my objectives.
3) What qualifications or experience do you have in the area that you are running in?I have been roleplaying for 3 years now, and have also been Thane of Roleplay for 3 terms. I currently have several Dungeons and Dragons campaigns running where I DM and play, I RP a bit on the website RPRepository, and I have recently gotten started in RP on World of Warcraft. I also have been running the ARTS program alongside Ruguo, where I currently serve as a mentor for two classes.
4) How do you plan to have the time to fulfill the duties of the position until the next election in March?I plan to spend at least 30 minutes to an hour each day working to fulfill the duties of my position. Since I will have a lot of time over the summer, I may even go longer. Until things return to a semblance of normality, I should be able to sustain this barring the occasional weekend getaways with family or obligatory social time with said family.
5) Are you currently a part of any other NationStates regional or organizational government? If so, please include those regions and positions.I am not part of any other NationStates regional or organizational government.

What's your preferred Genre of Roleplay?I highly prefer fantasy or science fiction, although I’ve dabbled in others before. Sci-fi is one of my preferences because I love how detailed such worlds can be, and how much thought and collaboration can be put into it. I’ve also been a big fan of sci-fi settings such as Star Wars, Dune, Warhammer 40,000, the Foundation Series, and the Left Hand of Darkness. Fantasy is also one of my preferences because it can be taken in any direction you’d like, and can be as detailed or basic as you wish. I’ve seen some truly stellar examples of detailed fantasy settings over the years, such as Weissreich’s Wintrean setting, which have been really engaging and have made me
want to learn more about it.
Favorite time period to explore in roleplaying?Everything! I seriously enjoy all time periods in roleplaying because there is so much potential in it. From modern to Middle Ages, from Roman to Renaissance, the opportunities are limitless. They also offer great opportunities for me to research and learn more about other cultures and mythologies. History is my favorite subject, and so such things are a true pleasure for me, rather than a chore.
Why do you feel like you're a better choice than other candidates running for this position?I really wish I didn’t have to answer this, because Pengu is an amazing person and would do wonderfully were he to be elected to Thane of Roleplay. However, to give a TLDR to the above, I feel what makes me unique is my ideas for how RP can really take off in the region, my past experience with the Thaneship, and my passion for one of the things that has made my internet journey so enjoyable. Roleplaying can often be a freeing experience, and I want to share that with everyone. I want people to know how great it feels to step out of your shoes and into a world where you can be who you want to be and share in an experience with others who feel the same way. Everyone I’ve met while roleplaying has been extremely supportive and interesting, which has made me want to continue. I want to help support the Wintrean community, and I feel I will do it best in this capacity.

You’ve held this position for three terms. That’s a long time! Why haven’t you been able to get more done?Truth be told, time has always been a constraint for me. I’ve never done what I truly wanted to do because I didn’t schedule out my time correctly. I feel ashamed of this, and I wann to apologize to all the roleplayers of Wintreath who I feel I have shortchanged through my inaction. I want to make up for it this term, and show that I can deliver on the promises I’ve made. To show that I’m not all bark, and that I have some bite to give to the job. This term would be fulfilling that goal: To put my great ideas into action.
