  • Hello, and welcome to my campaign for Thane of Werewolf!

    1) Why are you running for this position?

I have a few ideas I'd like to implement, primarily focusing on growing the werewolf community by making it easier for newer players to both join, and host, games of werewolf.

    2) What do you aim to accomplish as thane?

    • Update and re-organize the Fabled Hall of Winners
    • Create an easy to navigate archive of past games (I believe this was done already by Pengu, though it was left to ruin)
    • Host games/encourage hosting of games and continue to promote them, possibly working with Integration, and Foreign Affairs
    • Create a standardized format for rules, tips, etc. threads, and add headers and footers of sorts to easily navigate them.
    • Build on Laurentus' "Werewolf Jargon" thread, remove the link to the wiki post, type out the Jargon manually and expand it, so you can stay on the forums (and keep the same standardized format, keep it easy navigate)
    • Create a detailed "roles" thread for hosts, so it's simply a matter of taking said roles, slapping your theme on top, and hosting a game.
    • A few other small changes I can't remember off the top of my head, mostly general sub-forum clean-up

    3) What qualifications or experience do you have in the area that you are running in?

None, actually. I've participated in many games, though I've never hosted any.

    4) How do you plan to have the time to fulfill the duties of the position until the next election?

I already pretty much have the time.

    5) Are you currently a part of any other NationStates regional or organizational government? If so, please include those regions and positions.

    Nope!

I'll be honest here, the changes I'm looking at aren't super advanced, just basic improvements I think could be made. I'm aware in past elections there have been talks of using Discord for certain aspects of Werewolf. I don't have much experience in that area, and can't promise anything (though I'm looking to change that, I've been using discord pretty consistently for the past ~2 weeks). Now what I'd like to see, which would not be in my power, is the expansion of the Werewolf Thane's duties. I'd like to see a more broad forum gaming Thane, but one that doesn't conflict with the current Thane of Gaming. I'd like to see ToW's expansion include moderation of the whole Frostmist Arena, give them the same oversight they have over werewolf over the other forum games (spyfall, arena, etc.), to hopefully increase activity in other games as well.

Side note: without the complex PMs and PM threads, spyfall and arena could potentially be hosted on Discord as well. Something like that I could definitely look into.

Thanks for taking the time to read my campaign! :)

  • Good luck in the election!

What kind of Werewolf games would you be interested in hosting if you were to host some?

  • Thanks for the question!

Given our long queue, I may not get a chance during this term at all! :P If given the chance, though, I'd like to host a basic WW game. Not only will it give me experience in hosting, but it'll also allow our newer members to participate without feeling overwhelmed. I also want to host a Lord of the Rings themed game, though that is likely far into the future.

On the topic of the queue, I'll work with potential hosters to keep games running consistently. If someone is next in the queue, but they aren't ready/need more time, if they're open to it, I'll help them with planning and hosting it. If they're next, but no longer want to host, or don't want to host yet, then we can push them back in the queue, and give the next person in line their turn. This way we'll have a steady supply of Werewolf.

On a similar note, I'd like to "beta-test" two hosts running two different games at once. Ruguo managed to get ~33 people (including subs) to sign up for the game, though 4 of them were non-members, and a considerable amount did not show up to play, or dropped due to being new/overwhelmed. If we can manage to get 30 or so players, we can try 2 games with ~15 players each. We could try a more complex game for the "regulars" and maybe a back to basics for newer players who don't want to get thrown in the deep end. It all goes back to attracting those new players, though, and growing our playerbase will be my focus if I'm elected.

That was going to be something I wanted to do, but I was worried about overshadowing Ruguo's game when it started or likewise being overshadowed since it was getting a lot of activity.

How would you avoid this so that both games could run uninterrupted and without fear of going quiet because the other game is getting a bunch of activity?

For the most part, I don't think it would be much of an issue as long as no one is allowed to participate in both games (which would be, uh, interesting to enforce). I feel like the best thing to do is just try it and go from there.
