  • There are many campaign slogans out there in the wild reaches of the multiverse.
In a parallel world, one Doc screams out for more representative democracy, a unicameral Parliament made possible by the downfall of the Overhusen, and he says 'Demolish Overhusen Control!'
In another, a Doc calls out that the institution of democracy is a sham, that our Monarch is infinitely benevolent and our fortunes would only be bettered if 'Despotism Overcomes its Chains'.
And in a third, a Doc cries out from his pulpit that "there is a cancer lurking in the bones of our region, and unless Dogma Overcomes sChismatics, all will be lost", before acknowledging 'look, it's kind of hard to come up with these themed backronyms, okay'.

But all can see that in every case, a Doc is a revolutionary firebrand, one striving to cast off the weight of old doctrines and dogmas, and I do not differ from my multiversal brethren.
But my message is cleaner, purer; this world's Doc calls for one thing, and one thing only. He does not demand an Open Assembly; he does not push for a more Republican government, nor an Imperial state, a theocracy, or even the ideal Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communist world he longs for in his heart of hearts.

No, all this Doc is certain of is that Corruption lurks, coiled around the worm-ridden heart of a decrepit, ineffectual institution, and to revitalize our region, our community, our very way of life, we must root out this Corruption. But Corruption is at its strongest and most insidious in the dark, and so I say this: we must bring a light, a cleansing, purifying light, and the only light of such power and magnitude is FIRE!
It will not solve our problems, but it will acknowledge they exist and lay the groundwork from which we can work to solve them!
I proclaim my candidacy for the Underhusen, and I call on all who would Build a brighter future, Inspire greater glories, and Develop new ideas to BURN! IT! DOWN! and join the Burn It Down party today!
Together, we can Develop Outstanding Changes by Denouncing, Deflagrating, and Demolishing the Old, Obsolete, and Oppressive Council of the Underhusen.
And so I say to you, ladies and gentlemen, vote for me, vote for my fellow Burners, and together we can destroy this tattered old edifice and build something new and glorious in the ashes! Potatoe bless Wintreath, bless our Monarch, and bless every Wintrean!

  • Your campaign platform never ceases to amaze. I'm impressed by your ability to pull these backroynms out your arse and look forward to seeing your campaign develop along similar lines.

Despite your Burner agenda, you were a very productive member of the last term and a Skifra I watched with some interest. How do you see your agenda developing in the coming term, what with several other candidates running on a platform of increased democratic participation for all members? Do you think there's the ideational space for your manifesto?

What concrete changes would you like to implement?

That was sort of the point of my framing the Burner manifesto as one that was ideologically agnostic; the actual result could be a shift towards absolute monarchy, towards the Open Assembly, towards a unicameral legislature of some kind, or, hell, towards a coup that enshrines Crushita as Popetato Regnant (or in simultaneously more and less joking terms, the long-anticipated Chankoup, which I have long predicted will occur in 2037 but may happen earlier, and will then usher in the era of the Secret Govindia).
But yeah, frankly, whatever the system winds up being is immaterial to the Burner cause: the only relevant consideration is 'does the UH still exist? If so, destroy'.
So I'd say there's definitely the ideational space for it. There's the ideational space for it in anything outside of Chanku-style political conservatism. I don't say that as an insult in any capacity - merely that Chanku's strongest association/affiliation with the region has been with the Underhusen, and she's thus far demonstrated a thorough willingness to defend it and its continued existence to the death.
Which is, of course, why we're political enemies and I will see her destroyed. I will dance upon your grave, @Chanku, one song for every unnecessary @mention, so help me god.*

*I feel the need to stress for people unfamiliar with me that strikethroughs indicate that something is a joke, and I do not actually feel the need to destroy Chanku nor dance on her grave, except very briefly every time she @mentions me unnecessarily.

So, to be clear, your issue is solely with the Underhusen's structure as it stands? Why is that?

  • Partially because at this point BID is more of an extended joke role that I'm de facto expected to play rather than what is necessarily a coherent ideological perspective, and partially because I think we genuinely could go either way with it.
While my presentation here in this thread is that of an idealogue with all of the answers as long as you just follow me into glory, I've outlined on several occasions that I think what's far more important is having an honest conversation about the direction we want the region to go in. I'm perfectly happy to hand over (or really, hand back, since he devolved it in the first place) more power to Moot, because he acts pretty selflessly in the interests of the region and community; I'm also perfectly happy to have a direct-democracy open-assembly sort of setup in the region, but where the UH presently sits is a kind of shitty midpoint between the two, and I think it makes getting involved sort of opaque - because while we say people should get involved in the legislature to get their political start, really a UH gig is more like an internship where we size up whether someone should be in the Cabinet, where the actual day-to-day running of things goes on, and I imagine the same process goes on for deciding whether someone should become an Op, which is also where the actual day-to-day stuff goes on, but in the Discord.
So, I mean, if we want a system of elected representatives, well, we already elect the Thanes, which just sort of amplifies the perceived redundancy of the UH apart from the vaguely role-play-y passing of legislation; if we want an Open Assembly, the UH is obsolete; and if we want an Absolute Monarch, the UH is redundant.

This is very well put and I think probably sums up the biggest issues we have with our legislation - it's just not doing anything much, as you say. It's basically a stepping stone most of the time to other things.

If things were to go towards the OA side of the scale, how would you like to see things shift to address this? Do you think it can be addressed?
