  • Hi! I am a new member to this region and recently gained citizenship. I'm not just here for gameplay however, I'm also here for roleplay. Specifically nationgaming. I am proposing we petition the jarl of culture to look into the possibility of an RMB RP being set up for the region. An RMB RP is a Regional Message Based Roleplay. East Pacifics Valsora is a good example. This poll is setup to determine interest in such a game. The poll will last a week. Further polls will determine the parameters of such a game.

  • Greetings! It's good to see you diving straight into an issue that you care about. ^-^ We have had nation RPs on the RMB before, but I have to admit they haven't really been organized or been that extensive. Maybe this is the beginning of that changing, as it sounds like you may have some knowledge in this area. :)

I'm pinging some officials that may be of help: @Ruguo is our Jarl of Culture, and @Excalibur is Thane of Roleplay. Additionally, @Doc is Jarl of Regional Affairs, which includes jurisdiction over the NationStates region page and RMB.

Yes! Hello, I am Excalibur. We've met on the RMB. As Thane of Roleplay, I would be happy to help organize an RMB RP for Wintreath! What did you have in mind (map, tech level, etc.)?

  • After reviewing this region's lore, I have an idea for a RMB game stylized after Crusader Kings 2 where you play as a character in a noble house and the object is to have your dynasty survive as long as possible, it would be set on the Wintreath Regional Map. Another idea was to create an earth map and have people claim on it. The Wintreath game would be better for more experience Roleplayers though, and an MTRP or PMTRP Game set on an Alternate history earth is a good place to train newer players in worldbuilding and nationgaming.

Those sound like good ideas! There are some things that would need to be fixed, though. First of all, I am not certain of the canon status of the lore, as that was mainly written for Wintreath Bleeds IIRC. I also don't know how many people have read the lore. I have, but I'm not sure who else. The other main problem I see is that there are not a lot of experienced roleplayers in Wintreath, and as it seems like a daunting prospective, not many people are willing to try. I know the Jarl of Culture, Ruguo, and I are working on a "RP Academy" to try and help introduce people to roleplay, but we currently do not have a centralized system to introducing new roleplayers to RP. After the RP Academy was developed, I was going to create a "dimensional crossroads" Wintreath in which players could freely choose what they wanted to play as and adventure in Wintreath. However, this does not mean your idea is impossible. I really like both of them, and I'd be happy to work with you (if you want) to help refine and realize them.

I'd like that a lot, honestly, I feel starting out with a Modern earth map is a good starting point. Roleplaying vassalization and all that fuedal stuff is probably too daunting for beginners.

  • Some Ideas:

Moderators cannot take part in the roleplay, if they want to they have to create another nation. This would be in for the same reason that Gamemasters don't play tabletops, to prevent a conflict of interest. It was a problem on The East Pacifics Map that combined with their discrimination against new members, led to me eventually leaving.

A System that uses the color code system to utilize NS Stats in roleplay without crazy population and economies. It was an idea I had for a long time but nobody would pay attention.

I understand the problem with conflicts of interest, but I would disagree with the fact that gamemasters don't play in tabletops. The gamemasters "are" the world. I agree with the "creating a new nation thing", but I would move to create a new map, as an alt earth map opens up the issue of people taking and holding IRL strategically important spots. Having a new, unfamiliar map would prevent this. I also know in the past mapmakers have made uranium/plutonium extremely rare, so as to make sure that people can't nuke each other out of existence.
I once had the idea to use NS stats too, but I was quickly talked out of the idea. NS stats are so unrealistic that any sufficiently old nation will have the highest of everything. Issues, especially when a nation is old, like mine, don't have much effect. For example, I recently went socialist, and my economy did not drop at all. Even if we exclude population and economies, there still are a number of factors that are so "out there' that it isn't possible to RP with them without being steamrolled by an extremely powerful nation. My idea is to use a point system, in which nations "spend" points to change their stats. For example, being advanced in technology, but not being able to govern large amounts of land.
How do these suggestions sound to you?

  • I like that idea, a point system would balance out the stats. But I feel we should use them in some way. NS Stats are unrealistic because the population keeps growing. If you set a canon population you don't have to worry about unrealistic militarys and economies, but you can still use the stats as a guideline. My system was to use the color codes of the stats, nations with better stats have greener or redder colors. Instead of using numbers you use colors.

Oh, And yes. Mods can play. But have to creat a separate nation. Mods will probably moderate time keeping, tech advancement, and wars.

  • Thank you all for voting, it appears that most players would be at least receptive to an RMB RP. I will now start a poll to determine the Tech Level.
