Notice of Severance of Relations
Wintreath announces the severance of relations with Alvaria, effective immediately.
Our region had already been considering closing relations due to the drastic decline in Alvaria’s community over the past several months and resulting inactivity in relations. However, on June 15th, Vice Chancellor MacArthur made a number of derogatory and false claims concerning the LGBTQ+ community, including that they harbor and promote pedophiles, that they’re “full of degenerates”, and that the LGBTQ+ community was attempting to influence high schoolers into “joining the LGBTQ+ community”, ultimately only walking back those comments and stating they only reflect his personal opinions when our own Jarl of Foreign Affairs, who himself is a member of the LGBTQ+ community, confronted him about it. He also said that he was resigning his government position soon, but several days later appears to still be listed and masked as Alvaria’s Vice Chancellor.
In October 2019, I personally expressed our concerns with potential racism, xenophobia, homophobia, and transphobia surrounding a then-potential merger between Alvaria and Tatenda to then-Founder Red Baron, who guaranteed that intolerance would not be accepted in Alvaria. While I recognize that he is no longer involved in Alvaria, our expectations for partner regions have not changed. Wintreath hosts a large and diverse LGBTQ+ community which I myself am proud to be a part of, and we will not maintain relations with regions that allow government officials to make false, derogatory, and malicious claims against it with impunity. To do so would be incompatible with the principles and ideals of this community.

On June 15th of 2020, Vice Chancellor MacArthur, Alvarian Cincinnatus made some particularly unsettling remarks at the LGBT community despite the region of Alvaria having relations with both LGBT supporting regions, but also regions such as Wintreath who have a wide variety of LGBT members themselves.
The conversation began with him joking that the LGBT population “promotes,” “harbours,” and “encourages” Pedophiles/Pedophilia. He then went on to emphasize that he wasn’t kidding about the LGBT community, saying that it was “full of degenerates.”
After it was noted to him by our Jarl of Foreign Affairs that Alvaria had relations with LGBT oriented regions and that his statements were a quick way to lose relations, he replied saying that it was only his personal opinion and that he was stepping down soon anyways, then made another note saying that his views didn’t represent the Government as a whole. When it was countered that his views did in fact represent the government since he currently resides as one of its top officials, he respectfully said that he’d just stop talking about it...only to then continue merely a moment later.
This then turned into a debate where it was clear that he was spouting outdated and incredibly biased info such as obviously fabricated “Pride” posters to prove his point of the “degenerates” that supported the notion of pedophilia, despite members in the chat including the Jarl suggesting that it is something by and far not supported and is in fact heavily condemned by a vast majority of people in the LGBT community.
It then spiraled from there into talks about how schools are “normalizing” or “at least trying to influence people into becoming gay or trans or something,” going yet again into more rhetoric territory that is almost an outdated and tired cliche such as “showing posters and videos pushing the agenda of the LGBT community,” “directing their media toward kids in highschool attempting to influence people to join the LGBT community” and most importantly “nobody is being bullied or oppressed for being part of LGBT for what ive seen” ignoring the fact that much LGBT violence and even deaths happen when people aren’t watching.
None of this is okay in the slightest as these are statements and beliefs that can be damaging to LGBT individuals. The fact that it came from a government official was appalling to say the least, and the fact that one of the members even stated “ Our government doesn’t seem to care what they say lately” as a the response to when the Vice Chancellor was first asked to be careful on what he said is extremely telling that this isn’t an uncommon occurrence in the slightest.
Therefore, Wintreath simply cannot continue relations with Alvaria when it is apparent that there are those within its higher ranks that feel as if they can freely express anti-LGBT remarks while others in those ranks allow it to happen. It clashes with our values and promotes a toxic and hostile environment towards the LGBT community, and is not something that Wintreath can support as a region that not only supports/embraces but is also home to many unique and wonderful LGBT individuals.
