  • This shall henceforth the the official thread of the Winternights (Name is not set in stone, it's just what I've taken to calling it) Festival, and I hope to gather everyone's input to bring this thing together!

First things first, when is the best time for an event for all of you?
    A. February 16-29
    B. February 23- March 7
    C. February 2-15
    D. January 26-February 8
    E. Other

Next, this is supposed to be a showcase of the forums and get people excited about them again. For simplicity, I've split the cultural section into a few sections with event ideas.

    Discussion:
    General spectation/gossip thread
    Debates!

    Gaming:
    Minecraft server events
    ToS games
    Civ 5 games

    Art and writing:
    Collaborative writing activities
    Writing/art contest
    Collaborative art

    Arena Games:
    Werewolf
    Spyfall
    Arena
    Magewars

    Spam games
    Whatever people so desire

And that about covers where I'm at. Feedback on what you would like to call this festival, when it should be, and if you would participate is much appreciated. I also would love more ideas, perhaps willing hosts for new games and events, and anything else you may have to add!

  • This is a great idea, and personally I love the name. :)

I don't have any ideas right off-hand, but I'm going to give it some thought. I do think that if we're going to have a second festival, it should be unique in its own way from the Summersend festival, so it'd be awesome to have some new stuff that we don't do there. :)

  • I always thought a winter festival would be great (~6 months before/after Summersend, plus winter themed for Wintreath), but I was never ambitious enough to try (just one festival was a lot of work). But good on ya for giving it a go. :D

For scheduling, I'd say it should probably end before the end of February since Thane elections begin in March, and that might otherwise make it confusing with carryover for Thanes that are helping with the festival. And with Wintreath's Finest being per month, it'd probably be easier if it started and ended in the same month. So with those in mind, and since it seems you're planning on two weeks in February starting on a Sunday and ending on a Saturday, that leaves 3 options: 1) the first two full weeks of February (the 2-15 in 2020), 2) the second two full weeks of February (9-22), or 3) the last two full weeks of February (16-29) -- note that there are usually only 3 full weeks in February (2020 is an exception).

If you want to get really specific, I'd say the most ideal timeframe would be the first two full weeks of February as long as it starts on the 5th or later. This would allow for avatar theme voting to end just before the start of the festival (in case it is made relevant to the festival theme) and also allow the festival to end before the start of Wintreath's Finest nominations. So it could be as early as February 5-18 or as late as February 11-24, but this next year (2020) would be February 9-22.

Buuut most people don't care to get as pedantic as I am want to do. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • I like Gerrick's case for having the festival on the 9-22nd of February.

I shall be seeing what new, never before seen activities I can whip up over the long weekend and keep you updated.
