[IDEA] Werewolf Leveling System

  • I thought this might be a cool idea for having a Werewolf "leaderboard" and provide a small incentive for older players to come back and play new games. The way it would work is that there would be a leveling system, with experience and everything based on what you did in Werewolf games. Then when seeing someone's post in the Werewolf forum, you would see some of their Werewolf stats...their level, how many games they've played, won, and lost, etc, and we could make a leaderboard out of it. An example of how this could be done is:

-50 exp: Being removed from a Werewolf game for inactivity
+2 exp: Posting as part of a Werewolf game
+5 exp: Casting a vote during the day phase
+25 exp: Signing up for a Werewolf game
+100exp: Surviving and winning a Werewolf game

And maybe every 100 exp would be a new level. If this worked out maybe future Wolfmasters could integrate abilities based on level in their games, or we could expand this throughout Wintreath and have leveling for many things (so you could have level 3 in Werewolfing, level 2 in Spyfalling, etc.)

Just a rough outline, I would love feedback. :)

  • I can't say I like the idea of exp punishments for leaving a game. Perhaps leave it up to the discretion of the Wolfmaster?

  • I added it in because it seems like there's always several people who disappear during the game, and maybe if there were a punishment for that, however small, they might make it more of a point to keep on top of the game. I know I would in their place. At least there's no punishment for merely missing a round, or I'd be in trouble. :P

  • But sometimes things outside of your control mean that you are really in no position to continue the game. If there was a way to make sure or at least try to make sure that, in that situation, you would not be penalized then I would be satisfied.

  • I'm not opposed to that, but I think there need to be guidelines on where it applies. Inevitably everyone who drops out of a game will say they got too busy, but in my experience "I'm busy" is usually a euphemism for "I'd rather be doing other things with my free time", because I guess people don't want to admit that they'd rather be doing other things. It'd have to be a case where something happened that was out of their control that made it actually impossible for them to put in the 15-20 minutes a turn that they would need to.

  • I have mixed feelings about this idea, while I kind of like the idea of this, I don't really making players with levels more likely to get abilities (I think that is part of what you are suggesting) since that part I thought was supposed to be randomized.  Also would the previous games apply or would it just be from the next game on if this system was put in place?

  • We already have a points system for Werewolf. Having two separate ones would be rather strange I think.

And I think getting 0 points, like in the current points system, is already a disincentive against inactivity. Someone who cares about those points will not want to be inactive for that reason, and someone who doesn't care about getting no points probably wouldn't care much about getting penalized anyway.

  • @taulover: We do, but it seems like it's over a year out of date and it's never really factored into people wanting to play, so I wondered if there was any interest in starting a different system that might be a bit more competitive. The thing is, in the proposed system you get points for signing up, so if you do that and then go inactive it's still a net gain. That's why I included the inactivity point loss.

@A self deprecating Kane: It was just an idea for the future if the system worked out, and I figured they'd be separate from Werewolf roles, which are randomized. Previous games would apply as well.

  • How about this? Rather than it pulling advantages, make it just a ranking/name system sort of like how ambassadorship is.  Getting X amount of exp puts you at this rank and gives you points toward the grab bag.  And for every level, you get another set amount of points.

It still works out as motivation to play, but without potentially breaking the system with what could be seen as "unfair" advantages.

And when I get home, I'd be happy to brainstorm rank names for each level.

  • I tend to have those sometimes.  ^_^

Anyways though, we can have ranks such as Werewolf Cub/Werecub/Kid Werewolf/Werekid to start off.  Teenage Werewolf/Teen Wolf would be the first rank, Fledgling Werewolf, Apprentice Werewolf, Novice Werewolf, and just continuously upgrade the type of Werewolf for the rank.  After that, we can even jokingly go into different trades for the titles like Artisan Werewolf, Werewolf Baker, Werewolf Librarian.  The titles would get more sophisticated as the level increases.  Werewolf Chairman, Werewolf Congressman.  And then when it gets high enough, the titles would become even more so.  Werewolf Master, Werewolf Grandmaster, Werewolf Demigod, Werewolf God.

For every level increase, a point would be given toward the grab bag.  When it gets to the mid levels (ie the joke trade title ones), it could be upped to 2 per level.  When it gets to the the latter end of the sophisticated ones, it could even be upped to 3 per level.  And since leveling would obviously slow more and more as the levels increase, people wouldnt be drowned in points super quick.

When I get home tonight, I can sit down and establish something more concrete, maybe tweak the rank names a bit.
