I've only been around since 2015 so I can't fully speak on this, but I don't think so. Being largely nonpolitical seems to be very much part of Wintreath's founding culture, for the reasons Moot suggested.

Yeah fair. Politics without factionalism and stuff would be mature, stable and fun, in a non controversial way, so yeah. But it's hard to pull off successfully. So yeah, kudos to you guys

In our case, most of the peeps are just paranoid that in the absence of parties, the overall activity is just gonna stagnate and die off, so they aren't willing to let it go >_>

Ah, well, lowered activity has been a longstanding concern of our legislature, ever since most of the legal kinks got worked out in the early days. Just a simple consequence of there being less to do.

But activity in our community tends to be driven more by culture and other aspects, which is rather different from Aukumnia where politics and parties are a central part of regional activity (to my knowledge at least).

yeah. That's true. We don't wanna get rid of factionalism cause political competition and drama surrounding it is always fun to follow. But well, the thing is, currently parties are either straight up stagnant, or just counterproductive to score some political points over others. It's just kinda frustrating >_>

And this is all the more annoying when the region's overall activity is concerning and there's a desperate need for peeps to step up and encourage activity in some form or the other ( ._.)

Also, oo. So did you guys have political parties at one point in time?

As taulover alluded to, it goes back to our founding culture, as Wintreath was "the direct product of the divisiveness of politics" in Spiritus, the region we split from in 2013. Spiritus didn't have formal political parties, but there were informal cliques and factions that helped make things just as divisive. It's just not an environment we wanted to foster in Wintreath.

That's not to say there's never been political drama in the region, but it's fairly rare and usually between individuals rather than groups.

• Shmeckle Resigns in a Controversial and Short-lived term

While Shmeckle's elections came as a surprise, with AFP backing him being the primary reason why he ended up winning over Prozera, who was seeking a re-election, his term was even more controversial. He started off his term by romanizing the executive with name changes and bringing in experimental bodies. These radical changes were immediately opposed as the Chamber even put up an ultimatum at a point heavily discouraging such steps. As the tensions grew, in another controversial step, he invited a number of individuals from a communist server, leading to an inflow of communists in the server. This was interpreted as a move to consolidate power which led to party alliances and an anti communist front being formed. After a heated court session regarding these moves, and a number of other factors, Shmeckle ultimately decided to resign giving the leash to Ar, who took over and had a relatively quiet term, primarily because of the attention being diverted to TFU.

• Ar elected as the SC in a tight race

While being the SC by the virtue of resignation, Ar ran formally in the elections hoping to be elected and furthermore, noting the stabilisation fo TFU as a whole, hoped to bring the attention back to the region and so forth. Immediately after him declaring his intent to run, Prozera declared that he was going to run as well, representing a union rather than a party, which was an unprecedented move. Close to the end of the registration period, Lowe decided to run representing AFP. Despite it's shortcomings, in the current scenario, as the other parties struggled with activity, AFP's members were relatively active enough to vote, which gave them a huge boost. As such, the race ended up being extremely close as AFP gathered around Lowe. Ultimately, by a slim margin, Ar ended up winning and thereby becoming the SC.

• TFU elections conclude as the Federations Faces its first Challenge

After weeks of negotiations, the constitution of The Federal Union was adopted by the regions towards the end of July. Soon after the adoption, elections for various positions were held, and nominations were underway as the race became extremely heated. The peak of the excitement however was after the race as the underdog Trev ended up almost beating Black Sheep, the former PM of NWE, save for one vote. However, it was later revealed that the one vote should've been counted for the individual was actually a citizen, however the EC mistakenly assumed otherwise, which tilted the balance in Trev's favour as he won in a controversial fashion. Soon after, the union assembly was constituted as the institutions of TFU started functioning. While it is still early to assertain anything, the federation with an active community, and its own political dynamics, does show some promise.   

• Community Activity Stagnates as the Chamber slowly picks up

For a major part of the previous month, the activity in the Chamber had been next to nothing primarily because of the focus on the political system of TFU and having electoral gains there. However, the Chamber did regardless pass a crucial legislation immediately after it being constituted, which was drawing a line between the regional government and roleplay. By doing so, roleplay was made an autonomous entity that cannot be controlled by the executive anymore. After a long period of lull, another crucial legislation was passed which gave distinct rights to federal citizens and distinguished them from the ordinary citizens. While the activity slowly seems to be picking up, it does seem to be a major concern as the overall community activity is not at an all time high.

• The Aukumnian Imperial Fleet Set Back up

After the abrupt departure of Algerburg from the region, and his deletion of the servers, the military had received a major setback with its entire structure in disarray. As such, soon after Shmeckle's resignation and Ar being the SC, Eternal Imperials was given the reigns over the military as he along with a few others worked on getting the server back up. This was used as an opportunity to revamp the military as they opted for a navy themed server, with roles and the structure reflecting that. Furthermore, once the server was set up, a few weeks back, they finally started with the recruitment as the military is underway. However, the challenge of consistently and successfully executing various operations be it liberations or detags still remain a major challenge for a number of citizens who must be trained. Nonetheless, the military does show great promise.

• Amendments made as the Chamber is Dissolved

As the activity in Aukumnia was essentially at an all time low, in a bold move, the founder, through a referendum, decided to dissolve the legislature. This was after a period of the Chamber being inactive and the representatives neither debating nor writing new legislations. As such, it was decided that perhaps dissolving the chamber and instead having a chamber with all citizens as it's member would be more active and vibrant. However, this was not the only amendment planned. This was among the first amendments, as there were plans to modify the executive too, among other things. While it is still quite early to see if they were moves in the right direction, there are already discussions to reverse the change as a few individuals seek to bring back party politics and competitive politics. Albeit gradually, activity seems to be on the rise.

• Trev Wins the race for SC in a rather One-sided Election

Struck by inactivity, the elections for a powerful new SC was extremely important as the SC had their role clear - to revive Aukumnia. As such, three ran in the elections, Eternal Imperials, a former SC, Aontas and Trev, two well known former representatives of the chamber. While Eternal Imperials seemed to be a safer option out of the three, Aontas has been involved in a few inactive UCRs and has a bit of experience on how to revive such a region, while Trev's ambitious and controversial term might be just the thing that brings the region out of it's slump. While it was expected to be a close race, Trev ended up winning rather one sidedly, bagging over 50% of the votes. Soon after winning, he announced his new cabinet which was comprised of a number of new faces. As such, it might be where Aukumnia reinvents itself. It is to be seen how effective his term proves to be.

• Xadrya elected as the new President after a Controversial term

Trev had an extremely controversial term in TFU with a large number of critics, which ultimately led to an abrupt end following a vote of no confidence and a resignation. The elections following the resignation saw a large number of candidates signing up, however, after dropping out, 7 candidates contested for the position. Despite the large number of candidates, Xadrya, a well known figure around TFU, ended up winning with a huge margin over others, over 50% compared to the 15% that his rival had. He won the elections as TFU is going through a difficult phase of its own. Despite the initial excitement, the interest has fell considerably, with the turnout reflecting that. The Federation may very well be closed if it does not gain a new member, and in such a dire situation, it would be interesting to see what path Xadrya ends up taking.

• Community Activity Stagnates as New Initiatives are taken

A number of plans were undertaken by various individuals to ignite the activity once again. The Initiatives for increasing activity are the hosting of game nights in every week and starting the foundation of a new regional roleplay. The game nights were well received with a significant participation, and a significant interest in it. The games played through bots were open to both citizens and visitors, and were an enjoyable experience for the community. On the other hand the roleplay is still in progress. There is also the possibility of other initiatives to be taken in the future like tournaments, writing contests, themed events, gaming night or competitions, a Minecraft server and maybe even festivals that will include a variety of games and events.

• The Aukumnian Imperial Fleet involved in a number of Operations

After being established, the fleet immediately set off to work by being involved in a number of operations ranging from practice raids, and a number of detag operations. While still inexperienced, and struggling with manpower, the military still is quite frequently being involved in a large number of operations on a weekly basis. This in turn has helped the military to gradually make a name of sorts for itself. While it is only in its infancy stages, gradually, should it grow numerically, it shows great promise of evolving into a large, active and a formidable organisation. However, the growth in the military can only happen should the region itself grow, which as such is the immediate concern of the current administration. It would be interesting to see how the military grows once the region is revived and grows.

Oh and a quick heads up. Just a few days back, it was officially announced that The Federal Union will be closing. This was mostly due to the disinterest of the citizens in involving themselves in such an organisation, and the failure of the federation to grow and attract new regions. As such, Aukumnia is now not involved in any organisations.

Ikr. Though, unfortunately, from the looks of it, we might be reverting back to a legislature as a few peeps are trying to bring back party politics and stuff. We might also have an elected cabinet so that's something too. It's gonna be an interesting month.

We recently had our own debates about doing an open assembly, but from the looks of it the old Storting is going to survive.
