  • Introduction
Hey there, I'm Hannah back from a long leave of absence from NS, the forums and the whole Wintreath community. That was due to personal real life stuff, mainly finishing my degrees, which led to everything feeling like too much. Due to that disappearance the ministry I was running at the time, Information fell totally by the wayside and all-in-all it was a disaster and looks very bad on me, I understand that.
With this little introduction I want to alleviate any fears that it will happen the same as before by letting you know I am aware of it and saying that: while my activity in terms of gaming is mainly limited to weekends and holidays, my schedule is generally consistent and under my control, so I won't end up getting stressed out and disappearing, and besides when I sleep I am always reachable through the Discord channel for any comments and information. :)

    Essential Information
    1) Why are you running for this position?
I always really enjoyed the gaming community here, especially the really large games we managed to hold (some of the Civ 5/6, CK2 and EU4 ones especially and the Minecraft server) and I want to see some of that again. I also really enjoy reading opinions on and having discussions about Gaming here, it's such a large part of modern culture and I really want to have an active role in encouraging and engaging with it.

    2) What do you aim to accomplish as thane?
Since I see this as basically my mandate I'll say:
-I aim to hold a baseline of a few gaming nights, that comes as a given but I really want to promote a variety of skill levels and mainly focus on these nights being fun for everyone, not just competitive
-To that effect I want to encourage participating in some co-operative gaming experiences in the region, and maybe some streaming type experiences but that will depend on interest.
-Also during my term I want to hold one competitive tournament style event, possibly on a free or particularly cheap game so a lot of people to participate. This would probably be something faster passed and more dynamic than the normal slower games that are popular.
-I also want to promote shared experiences and reviews of games on the forums, there is often a lot of nuance to games that a lot of people see as shallow and I like when I see that discussed and have a few ideas of things to talk about with it too.

    3) What qualifications or experience do you have in the area that you are running in?
I've been a gamer all my life, while I mainly play PC games I also regularly play board games with friends and have in the past owned numerous consoles; so I have had a lot of experience with a lot of the different sub-cultures. I of course participated in quite a few regional games here, and will be drawing inspiration from some of my favorites and how they were organised.

In terms of organizing and moderating the events and discussions mentioned, I also have had quite a few opportunities there, being a moderator on several forums and discord chats (outside of Wintreath and NS) as well as in real life where I think my most relevant experience was being DM for open-to-all D&D and tabletop games at my university.

    4) How do you plan to have the time to fulfill the duties of the position until the next election?
As stated in my introduction, I'll handle most of the big stuff on weekends and days I have off, I'll hop on the forums in the evening and check things but might not engage here everyday of my term. I realize that might not be satisfying for everyone, but it's not something I can work around. As I said in my introduction I try to be available for chat as much as I can on the Discord and through private message, but I understand if anyone is skeptical about me in this regard.

    5) Are you currently a part of any other NationStates regional or organizational government? If so, please include those regions and positions.
None, no need to worry about that.

Please if you have any questions or comments at all feel free to say ^-^
    Thanks for consideration

  • I think the main issue with the gaming portfolio people have ran into over the years is that it's required a lot of micromanagement by one person to even get anything at all going, and unlike other areas of culture the community at large has never taken up gaming projects on their own. If elected, what would you do to encourage the community to put together and run their own gaming events, so you're not carrying the burden by yourself?

It's definitely going to require micromanagement at first, I want to focus on building competitive and co-operative spirits with the events on certain games, if you get people playing the same game and talking about it then they are more likely to want to play again. I think the trick to this will be a wide and diverse range on the types of games and events that link back to them here, and being flexible with those games and events too, often it's difficult to have everyone interested in a game around at the same time or with enough free time at once to devote to a full session, and I want to focus on working around those things with stuff like running a tournament based here on the forums; introducing few faster passed games that have short sessions; and staggered type games, like generation and hot-seat sessions. The micromanagement will be on setting that all up at first, but I hope making things more open and accessible will mean over time my direct input will be required less and less.

Also something that's always dragged me back to gaming when I've had breaks is reviews, playthroughs and streams and I want to bring a bit more prominence to those things but that won't be the main focus of my term, just something I will want to share, promote and encourage.

  • I myself particularly enjoy strategy games such as Hearts of Iron 4 and Stellaris, yet I don’t see a lot of interest in the area with regards to gaming. Do you have any plans to encourage different genres of games to different people?

  • It's looking like you're going to be in a competitive election against AJ for Thane of Gaming. If AJ were to win, would you work with him in the gaming area? If so, do you have any ideas on how you could work with him based on his campaign and your ideas?

Quite similar to my answer to the question above but pretty much yeah, I actually want this to be a pretty big push; personally I play a really wide variety of games and I like having the ability to dip in and out of each genre. I want to sort of incorporate that during my term, I can not realistically promise it will all be developed simultaneously but I certainly can assure you that strategy and grand strategy particularly will have a big push. I have hundreds of hours in Paradox games, particularly Hearts of Iron. :))

Oh definitely, I like AJs ideas and campaign, and I think he'll do a great job in the position so ofcourse I'll be helping him out if he wins. I'd definitely be willing to take on some of the hosting of games and micro management, and since we're in pretty different time zones and have different availability I think it will provide wider coverage as a whole. Also I'll still have ample opportunity to explore other genres and it would still be good to develop that under someone else.
