    Title
    1. This act shall be entitled the Underhusen Seats for the Thirty Second Storting Act.

    Seating
    2. The number of Skrifa for the twenty-eighth session of the Underhusen shall be seven (7).

    For the consideration of the Honourable Skrifa
    @Katie
    @Syraj
    @Laurentus
    @Chanku

    I'm bringing and hopefully quickly passing this because I believe we have so many candidates that'd be foolish for us not to take this opportunity to seat them! Not only do we have a majority of experienced members running, but we also have new members who may contribute a new perspective on things. If competitive elections is your issue then there is still the chance more people may join in and force a vote anyways, but I'd like to see what such a large and varied body could get up to.

  • The last time this was attempted, it didn't work out well. It was largely not the most active, prone to infighting, and additionally that Underhusen decided that a 7 person Underhusen was a bad idea and cut it down to 5.Since then we have never had a 7 person Underhusen.

    Additionally, a competitive election is best for the community in the long run. It rewards being active in the community, and actually campaigning whereas just having Underhusens where everyone gets elected engenders passivity and general apathy towards the Underhusen session. When you win an election, you have earned something and generally respect it more than when you just are placed into the session, as I can point to many sessions in the past where Speakers have had to yell at their own Underhusen to get anything done.
    See you later space cowboy.

    We've had inactive sessions before despite elections. Electoral activity doesn't necessarily lead to Underhusen activity.

    While your second point is true, the five experienced members currently running have already proven themselves anyways, and I'm sure the newer members would like to appreciate and give back the trust they've been given, and while this session may be inactive and the Speaker may have to yell at people the amount of people has no bearing as far as I can tell.

  • I disagree wholeheartedly with Chanku. While a competitive election would be fun, we have a unique opportunity to get people experienced on the gameside into the Underhusen, as well as some potential new blood. There may have been some instances where this backfired, sure, but there's also instances where electing someone new to the community DIDN'T backfire, such as when I was elected to the 29th Underhusen. In addition, even if the new people go inactive in a 7-seat Underhusen, we still have 5 active Skrifa, so it'd be like a normal Underhusen session.

  • Except there is no guarantee they would be productive or even able to help the Underhusen in any way. Gameside experience is best suited for the Ministries or Adminsitration, not in the Underhusen a body completely different than what they know.

    Additionally, elections are generally a boon to the community in general, as people tend to get more involved in the community when they lose, and if they disappear they were unlikely to contribute in the first place. An election is a good test for contributions and participation. They aren't even active in the Discord as far as I can tell, and don't even seem to fully grasp the region as a community or the government as well, which are both warning signs. Additionally we will be stuck at 7 seats the entire session, so if two people become inactive and resign or lose their seat, we will have to hold new elections, which people may not even run for.

    It is best to keep it at five, and if there is still interest in the next election, the next session can increase the seats, but all I see are cons, I see no pros.

    Okay Chanku does make some good points. I am just so worried that we're missing a once-in-a-long time opportunity to get someone on the UH from the RMB community.

    There is no guarantee they would not and their willingness to run suggests they are at the very least willing to learn how to be a productive member.

    I have lost a couple of times and I find myself about the same as ever :P But, for better or worse nobody can say to have lost more elections then the man who's run in every single one! While they may not fully grasp the community a new community can be a very confusing place and there's nothing stopping them from doing so. If you are concerned about vacant seats then I volunteer to fill one should the opportunity should arise, and if we're stuck with one inactive member, so be it this body still functions even though we haven't seen Syraj in a while.

    I see only pros, and at worst cons we can mitigate.

  • I kinda agree with Chanku, but not everything. I ran for UH as soos as I got my citizenship, too, and looking back, there were a lot of things I did not know about back then. It gave me a fresh perspective, though, and to an extent, my flame has never burned higher than it did back then.

    It is a tiny bit concerning that they have not really interacted with the community on Discord or the forums a bit, though, so I am still hesitant to vote for them, let alone expand the UH for them.

    I'm somewhere on the fence about the whole issue.
