Chanku said it was legally permissible to sue yourself. So I'm doing it for the shiggles, and trying to commit metacrime to do so.

  • It's clear to me already that this will be a landmark case, which will set an important precedent for future generations to come, therefore it is paramount that this case be seen.
Remember, there is no reason to panic, nothing is on fire.

  • On the one hand, if we don't treat this harshly, we further weaken the Storting as an institution, as *for the shiggles* cases prove just how irrelevant it is.

On the other, by God, this is hilarious.

  • The integrity of the Storting's judicial powers is secondary to the possible hilarity. Therefore it behooves us all to chuckle heartily at this. I will now halt my parlance lest I become a sesquipedalian.

At the risk of showing my hand to the defense, that is a major part of the prosecution's argument.
Of course, at the risk of showing my hand to the prosecution, the defense wishes to argue that demonstrating the possibility of absurd cases highlights the desperate and pressing need for legal and judicial reform, and is so not a case purely for the shiggles, but rather one with the dual purpose of ensuring a stronger legal system, while also being fucking hilarious.

  • I don't know, in five years we've only had Chanku's test case and this joke of a case. It doesn't make me feel like we need a stronger legal system...it makes me wonder if we need a judicial system at all. For all the talk of doing away with the Underhusen, it does at least occasionally do good for the region...has the judicial system?

In any case, in accordance with the law I have randomly selected a member of the Overhusen to serve as chief justice of this case, and two members of the Underhusen to serve as associate justices. I asked Zaphyr to give me random numbers that corresponded to the order of members on the list of members on the forum front page, first two members of the Underhusen and then a member of the Overhusen (I used four in that roll to exclude myself). This can be confirmed in the Discord #zaphyr channel.

This means that the @Wuufu will serve as Chief Justice and that @Crushita and @Syraj will serve as associate justices in this panel. Please review the Fundamental Laws, the Code of Laws, and the Judicial Offices Act and begin proceedings on this "case" as soon as possible.

  • As Chief Justice in this, I won’t be taking any actions for at least 12 hours, probably more. I’ve just driven 9 hours across the UK into Wales and am not about to try and wrangle this. I thank you for your patience!

Some regions don't have a judicial system at all. TRR for instance leaves such matters to forum administration and the Citizenship Council depending on the circumstances.

Citizenship Council? How does that work in regards to a judicial system? I'm not familiar with that concept.

The Citizenship Council is in charge of granting and revoking citizenship. There are just three members of the Citizenship Council; one appointed by the delegate, one appointed by the longest consecutively serving officer and one chosen by a means determined by The Assembly. The membership of The Citizenship Council rarely changes however. For many years it was Fratt, Guy and Libetarian Republics. LR resigned when he could no longer adequately perform his duties though so Catalyse was selected as his replacement.

Of course they don't just revoke citizenship for arbitrary or childish reasons. They research a given person (a recent example would be Yuno) and collect as much relevant information as they can. Using that information they determine whether or not that person is a threat to the region or its community. Of course that's for people who aren't citizens yet but have applied or are players that are alleged to have committed a crime serious enough to garner attention in the wider NS world.

For people that are already citizens (the most recent example being Dar Es Salaam, now in TNP) have threatened other citizens, leaked classified logs or have acted against the government at the behest of another region (to name a few things) the Citizenship Council puts it up for discussion with the citizenry, talks amongst themselves and votes on it. Whatever majority the Citizenship Council comes to determines the sentence of a given individual.

It's rather rare for something to come up that requires the forum admins to act on. Generally that's reserved for DoS players (like everyone DoS'd during the Predator scandal) and other such persons. Primarily things that obviously warrant a ban.

Personally I quite like the Citizenship Council approach to judicial matters. The Citizenship Council has always been composed of citizens that the community has trusted without a doubt which is what makes it such an incorruptible body. I prefer it over courts and such to be honest.
