  • 14 September 1749, war returns to the realm of Galifor. Spurred on by recent provocations from the Wardens of the Dark Angel, the state of Bothnia has run out of patience with Galifor. Left without choice, the call is out for each Baron to raise their manpower tithes for the realm. Among them, is Baron Arocles of House Kalein, by elf standards, he is a boy a mere hundred and fifty years old, and the youngest elf to claim the title of Baron in Galifor. House Kalein had suffered greatly in the last conflict fought by the realm. So it was deemed that the young baron and his people would be given a reduced manpower tithe, and given relatively safe deployments in the coming war.

The sounds of fife and drum could be heard all throughout the encampment outside of Kalein Keep. One would be hard pressed to find such a celebratory air among any of the other rallying posts in the realm. It seemed more like a festival than a call to arms. In the center of the camp on a grand stage, Baron Arocles stood in a splendid army uniform, that if not for the boy’s sheer charisma would have looked like a child playing soldier.

“Come brave Kalein men! My father thought that this house had attained the highest stature of glory. I say my honorable father was most incorrect. I say there is no limit to Kalein glory! Sign your name on to fight for your house, for the realm, and to free our enslaved brethren in Bothnia!”

Arrayed on either side of Baron Arocles’ stage were silken tents with signs indicating the unit they represented. House Kalein had been called to raise two regiments for the coming campaign, one Lancer Regiment, and one Scout Cavalry Regiment. The choice of only raising cavalry, was strategic indeed. Not only were the holdings of House Kalein most well known for its horses, but cavalry regiments cost half the manpower of an infantry regiment with only five hundred souls per formation.

One by one, men enter the tents and greet a recruiting sergeant gilded in full regimental uniform.

“Fight for your country lad, sign or make your mark on the dotted line.”

  • @Syraj Not much for this bunch, elves in my world are the most magically attune of the humanoid races, so some may have some knowledge of low level spells like healing or water purification and such, but these aren't arcane college trained mages they're mostly working class people.

He won awards, but always had a hole inside him. When a new wave of recruitment propoganda came out, he went back to his childhood ambition and signed up.

6'0, Tanned skin (for an elf) and his hair is tied back into a longer ponytail down the back of his head. He has scars on his face and chest from predator encounters qnd work on the ranch.

Temu has always been better with horses than he has people, prefering the quiet countryside with his herd of stout horses to the hustle and bustle of the cities and towns. He saw the war and knew that he needed to do something lest his way of life be erased. He donated a portion of his horses to the cavalry, and signed up himself for the scout cavalry. He knows how to ride better than most, even if it isn't always by the book.

  • OOC: I asked Crush for details on some of it, but alas neither got everything I wanted nor could I find the information in the Lore of Mithra. So if I made an error or two let me know and I'll amend it accordingly.

    Name: Morredir aep Finandrel
    Age: 943
    Former Occupation: Mercenary
    Bio:
Morredir had been born in Gallifor close to a millennium ago, and has been selling his sword since long before the advent of gunpowder. At first, he restricted himself to Gallifor, but upon discovering men's coin spent just as well as elves', and they'd offer far better pay for his experience, Morredir has roved all throughout Galindia since, even occasionally crossing the great sea in search of employment.
One of his defining characteristics is a disdain for non-Elven races - based in part upon the shorter lives of the rest, but in many senses mere confidence in the inherent superiority of the Elven race. After all, even if they  did nothing but wait, as the decades, centuries, even millennia passed, so too would men and all they had built. That was simply the nature of their kind, along with a brutish aggressiveness that often led them to pay him to speed the process of their collapse along.
This went quite well for several centuries, before the first blow to 'Manhater Mor' and his worldview came in the form of the Yabani's rebellion against his southern brethren. He'd, admittedly, fought alongside the An Nasir against them, because silver was silver, but something died inside him upon seeing the devastation they'd left in what had been one of the greatest elven realms in all of Mithra.
The Eclenian's continued rise was yet another blow - a complete reversal of everything he'd understood about the benighted nature of humanity, whose nature was, certainly, to rise - but to fall a century or two later. Their continued ascendancy suggested, however, that the laws of nature had been rewritten while he hadn't been looking.
But it was the sight of Burjion's Kingsmen a year ago while on campaign that sounded the death-knell of his apathy towards his people. Far from the worm-ravaged, self-cannibalizing mess it had seemed scant decades ago, Burjion had arisen, phoenix-like, from the ashes of its revolution stronger than ever before, while the elves struggled desperately to keep pace.
And so Morredir aep Finandrel has returned home, to a hazily-remembered hometown in Kalein, to offer his bow once more - but this time for kin and country, not bloodstained silver.

"I've experience aplenty, Sergeant. Can't afford a commission, so I'll take what you'll offer. But I won't use a rifle. Those are men's weapons, not elves'. I've bow, blade, and breastplate of my own, so take what I offer or I'll find a regiment that will."

  • OOC: Well it looks like we have our starting crew, @Syraj @Gerrick @Saerien @Excalibur @Cinciri @Doc  I'll be opening up the IC, and OOC threads by tomorrow (Likely sooner.)

    WARNING: Rambling Ahead
Now that's out of the way I have a few things to bring up. To start, would you guys like this to be a high mortality RP? If so, I'd ask you all to create at least five backups each. Next up  how play is to be done. From what I have gleaned about play by post RP's, or at least how I have perceived the information is that they are generally guided stories written primarily by the GM (Not always.) I will be frank, I have zero experience running an RP, I've never even had the chance to play D&D. I am presently taking part in a weekly semi-RP semi-writing collaboration in which one writer is essentially the GM, and the other two write for a single character. So I present ya'll with two options to start, and if any of you have suggestions please bring them forward. One, I run this as a standard play by post forum RP, or two I take a note from Excalibur's RP interest thread about opening up a discord where we would have a weekly or biweekly (as in twice a week not once every two weeks) hour or two hour long session in which I write as the GM, and you guys write for your characters. Forgive my rambling, I realize most of this is pretty self-explanatory.

On a different note, I reiterate my previous comment about lore related questions. If you have any, send 'em my way.
