As I've been looking through old posts in the UH I've found a discussion that, ultimately, went nowhere after our term ended. Since Chanku is the legal expert here, I'll pose this question to him.

@Chanku, in the event of a tied Speaker Election (say with 6 members and 2 candidates with 3 votes each), if there is no change in the votes after several ballots (at least as far as my interpretation of the Procedural Rules goes, there will be more ballots, right?) what happens then?

I don't know (I know this was for Chanku, but I wanted to say this anyway), but if there is a problem, may I suggest the monarch has after, say 3 ballots, the deciding vote. Ignore this if this is already covered

I did notice this when looking through past tabled legislation. I'm also interested to find out. I assume there'd be some sort of tiebreaker.

With a tied Speaker Election, the election continues until someone changes their vote. This occurred last session, which lead to Taulover and myself having a discussion which lead to taulover being elected Speaker, me being Speaker PT, and Mathyland being Secretary/Officer of Information. I should note, though, that the only real position that would have changed is that Taulover would be Speaker PT and I would have been speaker (if I had won).

And if they cannot get to a tie breaking point?

The stalemate continues until the tie is broken by someone.

Perhaps we should fix that hole? Not a likely scenario, I know, but perhaps that should be accounted for?

Here's what I'm thinking.

1) This act shall be titled the "Speaker Election Amendment Act".

Amendments and Additions:
2) The "Procedural Rules of the Underhusen Act" shall be amended to add a section 8 (c) which shall read as follows:

8. (c): Should, after 3 ballots, the election for Speaker remain tied then The Monarch shall have the tie breaking vote for Speaker.

I think I'll introduce that.
