Sign-ups for Mage Wars: Direwood Shadows are now open!

Kragen wondered how he had been roped into this task. He was neither a soldier or an adventurer, but a lowly apprentice that was more accustom to studying in dusty libraries and fetching supplies for his master than trudging along faded trails that ran through bleak, dreadful woods. He was supposed to be searching for an artifact of some sort, but how was he supposed to do that when the thick, dreary brush and the darkness imposed by the canopy kept him from seeing more than a few meters to either side of him?

After being immersed in the somber landscape for several days, he could understand why people would believe this place was cursed an call it the Direwood. He could see why his master could find no soldier or adventurer that was willing to enter it. Truth be told, if it weren't for the fact that refusing this task would mean the sudden end of his apprenticeship and with it his dreams of someday being a great mage, he wouldn't be here either. All this for something that may or may not even exist!

But he wasn't about to let go of his dreams, especially not over fantasies conjured by people with overactive imaginations! It was simply an especially foreboding forest that made him feel uneasy, nothing more. He knew he had what it takes to conquer this duty, bask in the glory that was due to him, and advance until he could break away from his aloof master and consider himself a mage in his own right.

He was so deep in thought about his future, he never even it coming.

A month later, Cahith was preparing to undertake the exact some quest, which had become necessary since his fool of an apprentice never returned. He imagined Kragen probably tripped over his own feet or got lost and dropped his equipment somewhere. Maybe it had been crazy to send such an imbecile to start with, but nobody else would do it and sending more than one minor person would have attracted the other mages to what might be hiding behind the Direwood's myths and legends. It can't be helped now though, he thought as he was leaving his tower, if you want to get something done right you have to do it yourself anyways...

Direwood Shadows is an expansion pack (consider it un-DLC) for Mage Wars, with new features to enjoy, goals to complete, and challenges to be had, all of which will be revealed when the game opens up! Be the first to experience the Direwood adventure and sign up here! The game will start on Monday, August 20th, and run until completed even if it runs longer than the festival itself.

For those who don't know, Mage Wars is a turn-based game inspired by Battleship, where players take actions every turn such as firing spells from their tower, moving around minions, and collecting sweet, sweet items. Expect new things to do in Direwood Shadows, too.

While I'd like to join, Monday is the 20th - and while I'd still like to join if it started tomorrow (the 17th), I'll be on a flight most of the day so I won't be available if it starts then.
However, if it does start Monday and the dates were just confused, great, count me in!
