I found the
woman seeking VC funding and
the professor's anecdotes most interesting, because of the sage observation they both made (the former much less obviously than the latter, and perhaps even unintentionally, since on even further reflection it seems like she's turned it around and blamed it on patriarchy) - while on the surface, it might appear to be an empowering movement, what's going to happen is that men are going to get many more opportunities than women because men make up a lot more spots in management (or any other gatekeeper roles like producer, editor, professor, whatever), and none of
them are going to want to be anywhere near a potential lawsuit. And that's just going to reinforce the existing power dynamics - because if someone brings up the fact that that's discriminatory behavior, either it's thrown out on the basis of being a reasonable response to potential liability, or else they never meet
anyone one-on-one again (or god forbid, privacy rights get thrown completely out the window and everyone is filmed 24/7).
I don't think that makes #MeToo
bad. It's created some healthy change, although from the most cynical viewpoint possible, like most feminist causes in the modern day said change has been disproportionately benefiting wealthy white women with established careers rather than other women who are a lot more vulnerable.
But it's certainly a shining example of unintended consequences being a
bitch. And will likely serve as greater fodder for all the incels out there, now raging that they can't even
talk to a woman without being accused of rape while all those fucking Chads do the same shit they ever did, fuck it, might as well rape all those fucking Stacies right off the fucking bat, be the monster they make you out to be, (rambling incoherent nonsense about Elliot Rodgers' divinity). But those guys are fuckin psychos anyway.
As an aside, why the hell would
someone who works from home comment on a piece about how it's affected workplace relationship? That just kind of jumped out as some grade-A narcissism.
