She makes good points, but does anyone have blind faith in big data? Of course people may unknowingly place biases in algorithmic code, especially if the algorithm is not really based on objective variables since it's not always easy to find data both objective and relevant to the subject. I do agree that it shouldn't be used (or at least tightly regulated) when used on issues that may affect people's livlihood, though.

People absolutely trust algorithms and data.. A lot of times you don't even know that you're putting trust in something. Practically everything you see on the internet is there because an algorithm decided you should see it.
