A few months ago, I started thinking up an idea to add sexual orientation to user profiles, but I kind of got stuck when it came to the options to use. I wanted to have enough options to have detailed choices so that nobody would feel left out, and also so that there would be enough detail that we could do some cool stuff for future regional censuses if we wanted to. This is the list I have in mind right now.

Gay
Bi - Leans Male
Bi - Equal Male/Female
Bi - Leans Female
Straight
Asexual
Pansexual
Unsure

My questions are, is a sexual orientation field in profiles a good idea or no? And are there any options I should add or remove?

The lost looks good to me but then I am not as well versed in the LGBT community as I could be so don’t trust me. 

Speaking of which, the only Gender setting is in the Old User CP, and it only accepts Male and Female as options.

But it shows up in the current profile, so perhaps an update is in order?

I would be open to adding more gender options if there's a desire for them. And yeah, gender should be moved into the new CP at some point...

Yeah, i actually wanted to include a goal in my original December campaign to try and gey a nonbinary option for gender identity on there. Is that feasible?

On the topic at hand, I'm all for it. We need to get some sort of list of LGBT folk and that'd make the job a trillion times easier.

To be honest, is to really that relevant? I mean, sure it would be nice on the face as it would allow for more customization, but is it really necessary to do so?

Beyond the LGBT thane elections, it really doesn't matter anywhere else for the most part. I mean is it really that important to have it be an option on the profiles? Someone could just put it in their bio if they really wanted to have it on their profile.

Is most anything else in user profiles really relevant? No, but they're still nice to have. I imagine most people don't put their sexuality in their bio because it just doesn't come to mind when they write it...it didn't for me. But bringing it up as a specific option at least let's them consider if they want to share or not.

That should be doable...would we just call the option nonbinary? Should we also have an option for preferred pronouns?

I suggest "nonbinary/other" so we could give Bigender, agender, etc. folk an option while not having to add an exhaustive amount of genders.

Better suggestion: rather than making it a list of choices, why not let the person type in what they want?
